Happy Friday “Drivers” fam!
We’re losing way too many icons from the music industry lately.
It’s almost getting depressing excepting the magic of revisiting these greats’ contribution of beautiful music through their songbooks.
This past week saw the passing of three icon of the diaspora with the passing of Roberta Flack, Gwen McCrae and Chris Jasper.
So you know “Friday Drive” had to do a combination feature show / mixtape for all three.
The challenge being, fitting in all the amazing music these three have gifted us into our short two hour time slot, but I’ll do my best.
We’ll be starting off with some personal favs from Roberta Flack and start getting into a small taste of Gwen McCrae’s discography in the first hour, then continue into hour two with some more Gwen and finish things off with some samplings of Chris Jasper’s work with the Isley Brothers to wrap up hour two.
Sadly, I own none of Chris Jasper’s solo material and will be leaning on the Isley Brothers’ songbook in order to bring some light on to his career.
