Juste du: 70’s-80’s
@Minotaure
3 Rue Kent
Event:
https://www.facebook.com/share/1HiQUsgPPZ/
No Cover | 18+

We have a lot of fun with the 1990s and 2000s, because that's when we grew up and danced, but we thought, hey, our parents danced just as much (if not more!) in the 70s and 80s, so here we are again with Juste du 1970-80, vol. 13.

Expected: the great classics of pop, but also a carefully selected soundtrack from the immense repertoire of music of the time: new wave, electro, funk, disco, post-punk, hip-hop, all styles are allowed. One goal: to make you dance!.

Four DJs alternating with their vinyl, who will take you back to the 1970s and 1980s as if you were there..

Recommended, but not mandatory, accessories: - Disco shoes. - Way too much eyeliner. - Star/heart glasses. - Jeans with holes..

We'll be expecting you at 9 p.m., for a drink or two, then we'll meet on the dance floor on the 2nd floor..

DJ: Trevor Walker
For 30 years, Trevor Walker has been one of Canada’s best kept secrets. A walking musical encyclopedia, he’s responsible for shaping the eclectic sound that has defined Ottawa’s club scene for over three decades, partly due to his various radio shows over the years on CKCU FM 93.1 such as : New Soul Collectve Saturdays [1990-2001], Flava Zone Sundays [1991-1996], Undergrove Thursdays [1992-1999] and his current Friday Drive [2005-present]. His radio shows and club nights have showcased a wide spectrum of genres, covering Soul, Funk, Afro, Jazz, Latin, Carribean, Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Acid Jazz as well as his trademark House and Techno sets. Dancer: Sebastian Nicholson
Sebastian was first introduced to house music when he was very young through his mom’s love of dance music. Dancing came much later in life, as he found himself too shy to attempt the art form until 2011 where the world of K-Pop helped him break out of his shell. In 2013, he joined the K-Pop dance cover team, Kapital K-Dance. It was through this team that he officially learned about house dancing, as both of his directors were househeads and have even travelled to LA to train in this style.
He later joined Culture Shock Ottawa in 2018 where he focused less on K-Pop and more on the foundation and culture of street dance that K-pop drew their choreography from. He explored hip hop, popping, locking, punking/w*aacking, but found himself coming back to house, as the music and movement resonated with him the most. He started training in house dancing in 2021 and has learned from notable teachers such as House of Sole, Moov Ottawa, V. Love, Future, Frankie J, Diana Reyes, and more.
Besides being an active member of both the Toronto House community, he is also a member of the Toronto Kiki Ballroom community where he is in the House of Old Navy and walks Face and Pop, Dip, and Spin. He is currently enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Guelph where he studies One Welfare.
