Happy Friday “Drivers” fam!
Welcome to this week’s episode!
CKCU is back at it with our 47th annual funding drive with episode three of three FDFDF (Friday Drive Funding Drive Freestyle) with a final push to reach the show and ultimately the stations goal.
This Friday’s show is the third and final of the three episodes dedicated to raising $5000 on behalf of “Friday Drive” to contribute to CKCU’s 46th annual Funding Drive and this year’s ultimate goal of $193,100.
Friday Drive has been broadcasting since 2010 and was launched by Lance Baptiste and yours truly as a one hour time slot to showcase the global funky, groovy and jazzy side of music.
It’s been a true labor of love over the years, at times challenging to pull together a weekly two hour mixtape but I feel the Ottawa airwaves need and deserve shows like this and that are truly only available on a platform such as CKCU.
It’s only once a year we ask our listeners for their very important contribution over the course of two weeks to help keep the station on the air for another year and this one is particularly special as it marks our 50th year of broadcasting.
You can donate directly to your favourite show, hopefully, the Friday Drive Campaign by clicking the donate button on the CKCU website which takes you to the “Canada Helps” site or use the link in the “Friday Drive” interactive page which I’ve provided in the show description to donate directly to this show.

We are nearly half way to achieving the show’s goal and I have the pleasure to announce that this show has raised a total of $2,771.10 of the show’s, aspirational, ultimate goal of $5000!
Thank you all so much for your contributions!
Extra special thanks to all who have donated directly to the show so far and I want to let you know I’ll be doing a proper update of the totals next week.

Explore the radical potentialities of analog radio through the work of artist and author Paul Jasen and media and sound artist Florence-Delphine Roux. Artist and author Paul Jasen (A People of Oscillators) will discuss his project The ether is free, a “fictive radioscape” released as an audio recording, radio transmitter kit and text. Discover the electromagnetic wilderness of natural radio, the interventions of pirates and shortwave spies, and consider how accessible DIY media might help new collectivities take root beyond the reach of The Platform. Florence-Delphine Roux will present her performance Chronique d’Ether where she captures, perturbs and reveals radiophonic and electromagnetic frequencies in an interactive dialogue between space, antennas and her body. Through electronic craft and electromagnetically responsive sculpture, Roux cultivates an environment of attentive listening, unsettled by the noise of the world. This event is part of CUAG’s Stonecroft Semester series themes "The Art of Transmission”. The event is free and open to everyone. No registration is required. Join us at the iconic Bytowne Cinema on Rideau on November 15th for an unforgettable evening celebrating adventure, conservation, and diversity through compelling Canadian short films. Prepare to be captivated by a diverse lineup, including: • Wildflowers: Mountain writer and historian Meghan J. Ward recruits a team of creative women to revisit Mary Schäffer Warren’s 1908 expedition to Maligne Lake, in Alberta’s Jasper National Park. Blending backcountry adventures with historical research, Wildflowers demonstrates that sometimes we must look back to blaze a better trail forward. • Traversées (Passages): Immerse yourself in this evocative film, also crafted by talented women adventurers and filmmakers. Watch as five women attempt to cross Kuururjuaq Park in northern Quebec. They follow a 160-kilometer route used by Inuit hunters for millennia. This crossing quickly becomes a discovery of themselves. • Electric Greg: Record-breaking mountain endurance athlete Greg Hill has never shied away from a goal. Through his time spent in the mountains, he's seen the effects of climate change first-hand and came to realize the way he was approaching the mountains was only making the problem worse. He changed his approach and set out to climb 100 peaks without burning any fossil fuels. But the question is: will it make a difference? More than just entertainment, the Ottawa Outdoor Film Festival proudly supports the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Ottawa Valley Chapter (CPAWS-OV). Proceeds will directly support their crucial work to protect the National Capital Greenbelt and champion Gatineau Park. Don't miss this special event! FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2025 AT 8 - 10 PM Beverly Glenn-Copeland & Elizabeth Copeland | Izzy Rose @Bronson Centre 211 Bronson Ave. Event / Tickets: https://www.debaser.ca/event/beverly-glenn-copeland-and-elizabeth-copeland The eclectic works of Beverly Glenn-Copeland and Elizabeth Copeland root deeply into the interconnectedness of human beings. Glenn; the Philadelphia-born singer, songwriter and composer, and Elizabeth; the Canadian-born author, theatre artist and educator have been creative collaborators for more than four decades. Drawing a myriad of musical practices toward a single, luminous conviction: that music can shake us loose from the disconnect that closes us off from one another. Their multifaceted body of work surrenders to the beauty, pain and great capacity for healing that courses through life in all its forms. In its unguarded sincerity, their work invites you to share in its courage. To imagine a new world of community and connection. Glenn’s latest album, The One Ahead — his first collection of new music in nearly two decades — deepens these explorations, casting searching light into how all of us must dissolve the harms of this world and carry each other forward into the next. It has a funky, energetic sound. There are songs about love, past and present: “Prince Caspian’s Dream” revisits a love from half a century ago, and “Harbour” expresses Glenn’s gratitude to Elizabeth for the care that sustains him. It's another high point in a career that has defied categorisation and included collaborations with world-renown artists like Bon Iver and Sam Smith. Elizabeth’s creative works have evolved at the intersection of arts and activism. Her early years saw her touring with Second City, and performing as the ‘Witch’ in Hansel and Gretl with the Honolulu Symphony. Her seminal book, Jazz: Nature’s Improvisation was shortlisted for a ReLit Award, and her book of eco-poetry, Daring to Hope at the Cliff’s Edge evolved out of a year-long residency at the Joggins Fossil Institute: a UNESCO world heritage site on the mighty Bay of Fundy. Together, in this new interactive and heartwarming performance Glenn and Elizabeth invite us into their extraordinary artistic landscape through an evening of song, community and shared joy. Where the music reminds us of our collective power and strength, and gives us nourishment to carry on, together. Izzy Rose is a 24yr old Burundian singer-songwriter who has spent her whole life singing. Her sound is like no other as she mastered the art of soft yet powerful vocals, pairing her melodic voice while flowing through a range of genres. Izzy’s single “OHWEI” was featured on CBC Radio, 10 editorial Spotify playlists and has over 200,000 streams. She's performed in Scotland, Rotterdam, Washington, Montreal and Ottawa including a show at the capital’s biggest music festival RBC Bluesfest. Her newest single titled “CHERI'' is an emotional and intense description of a past lover or distant memory, felt through cut throat and blunt lyrics accompanied by sweet and soft acoustics. Izzy is currently working on new music including her first EP and creative projects to accompany her work. Streaming & stuff!
