Happy Friday “Drivers” fam!
Welcome to this week’s episode.
Nice to be back on the waves after the past couple of weeks off.
Big love to Chris International for holding down the wheels for last week’s broadcast dropping pure heat for two hours straight, massive respect!
Highly recommend going back and checking the show on demand, if you missed the musical journey.

Also wanted to mention to those who are unaware Chris produces a show every Monday, 4 - 5 pm, recently rebranded "Off The Charts" where you can catch his genius selections every week!

Not sure I can live up to last week’s fire but I’m going to try.
Fair amount of mostly recent acquisitions with some new releases intermingled to share with you all this week.
A little focus on a number of releases from this killer label, Local Dish, based out of Toronto appearing to have hopped on the scene with their first release in 2019 that I was put on to by a couple my brothers from other mothers.
Big love to Jefferson & Andy for the heads up!
“Local Dish” have nice assortment of eclectic analog recordings from local artists in the Toronto area with wide ranging sounds fusing anything from dub to Brasilian to Middle Eastern grooves that have all been released on what seem to be very limited 7” vinyl pressings as they’re all sold out, to my chagrin.
I’m a tad late to discovering them so I’m grateful to featuring what I was able to scrape off their Bandcamp page which is definitely worth a browse.

Keeping things pretty downtempo in the “unwind from the week”, of blistering heat we’ve been experiencing, in hour one, with some dub, jazz vibes, grooves ’n ting and taking things up in the “wind up for the weekend” second hour by digging in to some dance floor friendly jazz, afro grooves and left field electronic fusion.
Happy listening, thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy this week’s offering.

EVERY THURSDAY AT 9 PM - 2 AM CONCEPT THURSDAYS @City Gridwrks 221 Rideau St No Cover | 19+ As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, CONCEPTHURSDAYS is now moving over to City’s new venue: CITY GRIDWRKS. This decision comes from the fact that Concept had now outgrown City at Night and was having to turn people away at the door every week from not having enough space. City Gridwrks is our new venue on rideau st that can hold up to 3x more people, which will help us accommodate the growing demand for Concept. The vision for the event still remains the same. Same people, same staff, same music, same vibe and will always remain free. This is still the same concept you know and love, just at a new location! This Thursday is what we like to call GOOD THURSDAY, as it is Good Friday’s eve, the only public holiday friday of the entire year. The group was founded in 2013 by saxophonist Zakari Frantz and pianist Pierre Chrétien of the Souljazz Orchestra, both looking to explore new directions in modal, spiritual and esoteric jazz music. After spending a few years refining their signature sound, the Atlantis Jazz Ensemble released their debut LP in 2016, Oceanic Suite, a seven-part conceptual jazz album depicting the sea and other related themes. Then, Atlantis rose up again in 2023 with Celestial Suite, a brilliant set of spiritual soul-jazz, with a righteous energy in the mode of some of the best work on independent labels such as Strata East or Tribe back in the day, though updated with enough modern elements to keep the vibe current and fresh. With the blend of electric piano, sax, trumpet, bass and percussion, the quintet perfected the searching, soaring quality of their sound, capturing to tape, over the course of two days in the studio, an inspired session worthy of the skybound promise of the album's title. Each musical act promises a one-of-a-kind experience, uniting diverse musical traditions to create a truly unforgettable experience. Les Mamans du Congo & Rrobin embody and sing to the African woman of the future. The self-described educators transmit Congolese cultural heritage and traditions to international stages, with music never heard in Africa. Their debut album, EP Kikento, led to international acclaim. Their new album, Ya Mizolé (whose name means number 2 in Lari,) marks the culmination of years of struggle and sound experimentation in the Congo. It combines DIY percussive instruments, electronic beats, bass music and Afrobeats with drum machines, rap and spellbinding choruses. This charismatic, feminist group aims to raise awareness and preserve ancestral Bantu values, rhythms and melodies. Having revived centuries-old Bantu lullabies, Gladys Samba, accompanied by her musicians and Rrobin, continue the fight for the emancipation and future of African women. Through the tracks on this album, the group opens the doors to their universe and delivers powerful messages. Group leader Gladys Samba sings and raps to a funky electronic soundtrack orchestrated by producer Rrobin. This music is enriched by the percussive bass of Damon Albarn, collaborator Mel Malonga, as well as traditional rhythms from various regions of the Congo, performed with instruments created from recycled materials such as plates, forks and cans.
