Friday Drive
Friday June 6th, 2025 with Trevor Walker
[DnBrukHouse&Stuff]

Happy Friday “Drivers” fam! Welcome to this week’s episode. Another dig into the drives to provide you a bumping soundtrack of goodies that need to be heard. Starting things off on a slightly, kind of but not really, downtempo vibe in the “unwinding from the week” first hour of the show and quickly escalating things throughout to get you wound you up for your weekend. There will be a healthy does of House and broken beat vibes fusing some soulful and jazzy vibes throughout with a little dutty wobbliness here and there. Happy listening, thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy this week’s offering.

CONCEPT THURSDAYS
@City Gridwrks
221 Rideau St
No Cover | 19+

As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, CONCEPTHURSDAYS is now moving over to City’s new venue: CITY GRIDWRKS. This decision comes from the fact that Concept had now outgrown City at Night and was having to turn people away at the door every week from not having enough space. City Gridwrks is our new venue on rideau st that can hold up to 3x more people, which will help us accommodate the growing demand for Concept.
The vision for the event still remains the same. Same people, same staff, same music, same vibe and will always remain free. This is still the same concept you know and love, just at a new location!

This Thursday is what we like to call GOOD THURSDAY, as it is Good Friday’s eve, the only public holiday friday of the entire year. If you haven’t been able to check out the new spot yet and you also can’t usually come to concept because of work on fridays, this is the perfect time to!

Th3rd Fridays was launched in 2018 as the foundation of Moov Ottawa Dance. This initiative, created in collaboration with various community partners, aimed to provide street dancers with more regular opportunities to battle and for them to showcase it to our city. Entirely volunteer-driven, the event took place on the third Friday of every month from its inception until the final gathering just before the pandemic began.

Our events were hosted at City Hall, making Th3rd Fridays the only street dance battle in Canada held in a government building at the time! Now, we’re excited to bring Th3rd Fridays back once a season—still on the third Friday of the month! Join us May 16th for the Spring edition at 55 ByWard Market Square in the ByWard Market!

Josee Bourgeois, Dancer, Model, Actress
Born in Ottawa, Josée Bourgeois is an Algonquin First Nations from Pikwakanagan, ON. She is an accomplished dancer, actor and model, who began her training as a gymnast and contemporary dancer. At the age of 16, she was signed to the Ford International modelling agency and began a lengthy journey as one of Canada’s only First Nations high fashion models. It was during her teenage years that she learned about her father’s Algonquin heritage. Her father was a Sixties Scoop baby adopted into an Irish family, and her grandmother was a residential school survivor from the Ottawa Valley area. At 23, she made the commitment to become immersed in her culture. Using skills she had developed as a contemporary dancer to connect with others, she self-trained to become a pow wow dancer specializing in “fancy shawl.”
Over the past 12 years, she has travelled the Eastern Pow wow Trail as a Fancy Shawl and Jingle dress dancer, making roots with her son Little Thunder, creating a positive impact through dance arts on her ancestral Algonquin territory and through collaborations with artist like DJ Shub, DJ Classic Roots, and DJ Rise Ashen. She has studied with the multidisciplinary Australian-based Indigenous artist Victoria Hunt at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, has performed in the National Arts Centre’s Wild West Show- Gabriel Dumont Story, and as Kina Nimiwag (Contemporary pow wow dance troupe) in the opening act for the Backstreet Boys at Ottawa’s Bluesfest 2019. A generous leader with a strong vision for change, she has employed her dance skills in a variety of environments and institutions to facilitate healing journeys for others. She is committed to reclaiming space as an Algonquin Artist all over Turtle Island and across the world.
She will be sharing her Pow wow Step groove, a mix of traditional pow wow dance footwork mixed with house music, hip hop, as well as a cardio workout. In 2017, Josee started to share her love of dance with others through this medium and has been able to share it across the country.
Come join Josee and get groovy, pow wow style!

Ed Lister, trumpet
Zakari Frantz, alto sax
Pierre Chrétien, electric piano
Chris Pond, double bass
Mike Essoudry, _drums
Like the mythical Lost Continent that gave it its name, the Atlantis Jazz Ensemble's music lies somewhere between the shores of Africa, Europe, and the Americas, influenced by jazz currents stemming from both sides of the Atlantic.
The group was founded in 2013 by saxophonist Zakari Frantz and pianist Pierre Chrétien of the Souljazz Orchestra, both looking to explore new directions in modal, spiritual and esoteric jazz music. After spending a few years refining their signature sound, the Atlantis Jazz Ensemble released their debut LP in 2016, Oceanic Suite, a seven-part conceptual jazz album depicting the sea and other related themes.
Then, Atlantis rose up again in 2023 with Celestial Suite, a brilliant set of spiritual soul-jazz, with a righteous energy in the mode of some of the best work on independent labels such as Strata East or Tribe back in the day, though updated with enough modern elements to keep the vibe current and fresh. With the blend of electric piano, sax, trumpet, bass and percussion, the quintet perfected the searching, soaring quality of their sound, capturing to tape, over the course of two days in the studio, an inspired session worthy of the skybound promise of the album's title.
