CONCEPT THURSDAYS
@City Gridwrks
221 Rideau St
No Cover | 19+

As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, CONCEPTHURSDAYS is now moving over to City’s new venue: CITY GRIDWRKS. This decision comes from the fact that Concept had now outgrown City at Night and was having to turn people away at the door every week from not having enough space. City Gridwrks is our new venue on rideau st that can hold up to 3x more people, which will help us accommodate the growing demand for Concept.
The vision for the event still remains the same. Same people, same staff, same music, same vibe and will always remain free. This is still the same concept you know and love, just at a new location!

This Thursday is what we like to call GOOD THURSDAY, as it is Good Friday’s eve, the only public holiday friday of the entire year. If you haven’t been able to check out the new spot yet and you also can’t usually come to concept because of work on fridays, this is the perfect time to!

Th3rd Fridays was launched in 2018 as the foundation of Moov Ottawa Dance. This initiative, created in collaboration with various community partners, aimed to provide street dancers with more regular opportunities to battle and for them to showcase it to our city. Entirely volunteer-driven, the event took place on the third Friday of every month from its inception until the final gathering just before the pandemic began.

Our events were hosted at City Hall, making Th3rd Fridays the only street dance battle in Canada held in a government building at the time! Now, we’re excited to bring Th3rd Fridays back once a season—still on the third Friday of the month! Join us May 16th for the Spring edition at 55 ByWard Market Square in the ByWard Market!

Capital Music Week (CxMW)

Capital Music Week (CxMW) Launches in Ottawa with Major Headliners, Industry Summits, and City-Wide Celebrations
Free and ticketed activities planned for fans, industry professionals, and creatives May 20-25, 2025

The inaugural week-long celebration of Ottawa’s music scene includes headline performers Elijah Woods, The Halluci Nation, and Skydiggers, the Capital Music Awards, local talent showcases, a fireside chat with CBC q’s Tom Power, and a first-of-its kind national summit on nightlife economies
Tickets and Full Schedule Available Here

Ottawa, ON – April 24, 2025 – The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) is thrilled to unveil the schedule and first round of tickets for the inaugural Capital Music Week (CxMW) Festival. Taking place from May 20-25, 2025 in multiple venues across the city, the week-long celebration features public concerts, professional development summits, and networking opportunities designed to support and strengthen the local music ecosystem and nightlife economy. CxMW marks a significant milestone for Ottawa’s music industry by creating a new, innovative platform to showcase local talent and foster city-wide partnerships while animating numerous locations within the community. From free, family-friendly concerts in public spaces, to exclusive VIP experiences and everything in between, OMIC encourages all music lovers to partake in the week-long event.
“CxMW is a calling card, a way for everyone to get involved and to gather around something creative, empowering, and inspiring,”  says OMIC’s Executive Director Melanie Brulée. “We see it as a platform to not only empower Ottawa’s artists and music entrepreneurs, but also to spark collaboration, foster careers, animate the community, and positively impact the region’s reputation and economy. By uniting creatives, industry leaders, and fans, we re-ignite the potential to catapult a thriving nightlife economy.”
Among the key partners, Ottawa's Nightlife Commissioner Mathieu Grondin will spearhead the Canada After Dark Summit on May 20th and 21st. Grondin stated, “This international dialogue offers Ottawa a rare chance to drive collaboration and innovation, creating a dynamic and sustainable nightlife that resonates far beyond our city. The City of Ottawa’s Nightlife Office, in collaboration with OMIC and its partners, is eager to leverage Capital Music Week to boost late-night programming and champion policies that empower Ottawa's live music scene.” This 2-day event will set the stage for leaders to address key industry challenges and opportunities, reinforcing Ottawa’s position as a dynamic hub for nightlife strategy conversations.

Thanks to Grondin, Ottawa music venues and entertainment businesses wishing to prolong their alcohol sales are eligible to apply for a “municipal significance” liquor license extension to serve until 5 AM, a strategy often used to stimulate nightlife activities during city-wide music festivals in Toronto and Montreal. More information can be found on the City of Ottawa’s website.

Ahead of Mayor Sutcliffe's official proclamation of Capital Music Week at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, CxMW’s preferred partner hotel, Tom Power of CBC “q” will kick off the week with a live interview of Jim Ed Norman, a Nashville producer known for his work in shaping the careers of Anne Murray, Randy Travis, Faith Hill and Blake Shelton. The intimate fireside chat will be followed by an exclusive first performance of Tara Shannon’s Cover Story, produced by Jim Ed. VIP “Meet & Greet” passes are available for this event, taking place at the National Arts Centre’s 4th Stage.
The centrepiece of CxMW is the 6th Annual Capital Music Awards (CMAs), set to take place at the prestigious Southam Hall in the National Arts Centre on May 22. Since 2020, the CMAs have recognized and celebrated outstanding achievements in local music across 13 categories including Music Educator, Sound Engineer, and Group of the Year, amongst others. This year, the celebration will continue at the official after-party and electronic artist showcase at the ByWard After Dark Party at Lowertown Brewery and SkyLounge, further uniting artists, industry professionals, and fans.
Spotlighting the vibrancy of Ottawa’s local talent with variety of artists ranging from Pop to Punk, and R&B to Rock, attendees will witness a powerful celebration of Ottawa's music scene including local showcasing artists opening for headliners Elijah Woods, the electrifying return of the Halluci Nation, and Skydiggers' long-awaited homecoming to the nation's capital since their tour with Paul Langlois. On May 21 and 22, the National Arts Centre will host the Ontario Music City Showcase - free lunch-hour concerts featuring exciting performances from artists across the province in addition to local talent.
Showcasing artists will be announced in early May. For a complete list of events, schedules, artists, ticket information, and updates, visit cxmw.ca and follow @cxmw.ca on Facebook and Instagram.
Sponsorship packages are still available for a limited time, please contact Melanie Brulée melanie@ottawamic.com. Please visit our website for a list of our generous sponsors.

CxMW presents a soul-shaking night with the one and only Kellylee Evans and the funky powerhouse The Commotions as part of the Capital Music Week festival.

About Kellylee Evans
Juno Award-winning singer, songwriter and motivational speaker Kellylee Evans is a high-octane, chameleon-like performer whose natural charm and improvisational vocal style embody jazz, soul, pop, and hip-hop. Since winning 2nd place in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in 2004, the singer-songwriter has been nominated for a number of awards including numerous Juno nominations. She has toured extensively, captivating audiences throughout the world and opened for artists like John Legend, Tony Bennett, Willie Nelson, and Erykah Badu. She has been signed to Universal Music and Publishing, Motema Music, and French label Plus Loin, and today releases music on her own label, Enliven Media.
Her new EP, Show Love, offers a fresh and innovative approach that establishes new sonic terrain built on the foundation of familiar sounds and styles from her six previous studio projects.
From the satisfyingly phat, arpeggiated synthesizer introduction on “Friends” to the polyrhythmic trip-hop accompaniment of “Higher,” — courtesy of producer and arranger Michael Shand, who played every instrument on Show Love — Evans achieves a more futuristic soul concoction that blends elements of R&B, funk, and —yes — a hint of jazz into earworm ecstasy.
Whether it's romance, parenthood, or self-healing, Kellylee Evans offers food for thought on the six songs that comprise Show Love. Her impeccable and versatile voice meticulously delivers the emotional wallop of each song with picture-perfect phrasing.

Hi. I also have the Ella Andall edit,as an MP3. I liked it so much that i found a CD of hers and bought it. Waiting for the mailman to deliver... soon to be on strike ? On an episode of Night Music with David Sanborn, through YouTube, i saw Papa Wemba perform. What a sight to behold, and hear. Wow ! Better, live, than on studio recordings... Incredible stuff. There is a god. Thank you.

About music and dancing, away from prying eyes. This is all because of you and the music you played on New Soul Collective in 1995. You got me interested in music again. Thank you !
