Friday Drive
Friday November 29th, 2024 with Trevor Walker
[CanConSpot]

Happy Friday “Drivers family” and welcome to this week’s show. I’ve been a bit overdue in dropping some Canadian content on the show and figured let’s some Can Con show today. A real mixed bag of genres this week, starting off the first hour on a more mellow and somewhat moody tip for the “unwind” part of the show and as I always try to take it up in hour two. Still reminding you that the online drive push is still going you can still donate directly to your favourite show, hopefully this on, nudge nudge wink wink. The donate button is still up on the CKCU website which takes you to the “Canada Helps” site or use the link in the “Friday Drive” interactive page which I’ve provided in the show description. https://www.canadahelps.org/me/64Z4muwJ Massive thanks to all of you for contributing and for the post drive donations from a third anonymous donor and Matt Day bringing the Friday Drive’s total to $3412.55 of the show’s $5000 goal and consequently the full drive total to $169,396.89 at the time of putting this episode together. The donate button is still up on the CKCU website which takes you to the “Canada Helps” site or use the link in the “Friday Drive” interactive page which I’ve provided in the show description. https://www.canadahelps.org/me/64Z4muwJ Thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy the show.

Event:

John Rolodex- Edmonton Canada
Metalheadz/Machinist
John Rolodex is a pioneering DnB artist from Edmonton, Canada. Releasing music on acclaimed labels for nearly 20 years, he is considered one of the seminal international artists in North America.
His early releases on Ray Keith's Dread Recordings led to global recognition of his signature heavyweight sound and support from every major figure in the genre as well as numerous spins by the venerable John Peel (OBE) on his iconic BBC Radio 1 show.
John quickly garnered the attention of DnB figurehead Goldie, leading to releases on his Metalheadz imprint and an ongoing affiliation with the imprint which continues today.
His Rainmaker EP (October 2020) received critical acclaim and widespread support among the key figures in DnB.
In 2010, John founded Machinist Music, a label focusing on raw, undiluted sounds within DnB.
Early releases include some of the first from Rene LaVice, Trex and Acid Lab. In the subsequent decade, Machinist has released music from dozens of established and developing artists around the globe. Machinist Music is now operated alongside Dioptrics (USA).
John has headlined events in dozens of cities across Europe and North America... from Oslo to Budapest; from New York to Vancouver.
John has directed music videos and completed scoring work for film and television. He enjoys combining sound and visuals and regularly does so in various capacities for his releases on Metalheadz and most releases on Machinist Music.
