Kin Gongolo Kiniata & DEF MAMA DEF
Dakar Beats to Kinshasa Streets: Experience Afrofuturism. An extraordinary double bill.
w/ XANNIE
Friday July 12 2024
w/ Promotional partners Quata Quata
Act I

Kin'Gongolo Kiniata is the new generation of musicians from Kinshasa. Nourished by the sounds of the city, the group translates the frenetic life of the streets into their music. They make their own instruments with recycled objects and explore sound textures to produce experimental Afro-pop with a punk energy between electro and Congolese rhythms.
The lyrics in Ingala (one of the most widely spoken languages in Congo) traverse various themes of hope and perseverance. A tribute to the itinerant workers, a song against the war in Congo, an encouragement to the youth of Kinshasa...
During the period when there were power cuts in Congo, the itinerant oil sellers brought people the necessary to produce light. The sound of the boxes they carried around sounded "kingongolo, kingongolo, kingongolo...".
Act II

DEF MAMA DEF is a thrilling musical encounter between two rising stars of Senegalese hip hop. Mamy Victory and Defa.
Their coming together has shaken up Dakar’s music scene, sparking a wave of interest and excitement in this new collaboration. The themes and melodies of their songs are deeply rooted in Senegalese culture and history, while the duo remain open to international influences.
Discover the electrifying sounds of Senegal’s hottest new band, mixing elements of Amapiano, Hip Hop and Afro beats to create a unique and unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.

With successful releases like “Várias Queixas” and “Devagarinho,” the band's debut album Pra Gente Acordar has garnered attention, earning a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language. The trio, after participating in major festivals across Brazil, recently graced the Sunset Stage at Rock In Rio alongside Jorge Aragão, captivating an audience of over 100,000 people. Art in Strathcona Park also offers jewellery and pottery, to name just a few, and will also feature a silent auction and a BBQ - something for just about everyone!
Art in Strathcona Park is a fundraising and public awareness event sponsored by Mental Illness Caregivers Association (MICA).
Did you know that in any given year, 1 in 5 Canadian experiences a mental health problem or illness? The sad fact is that we are all touched in some way by mental health issues through a family member, a friend or a colleague. Unfortunately, the reality is that public misconceptions, fear and the stigma associated with having a mental illness may discourage people from seeking help for themselves or their family member.
Set in an idyllic location that draws many visitors and locals, Strathcona Park is located between the Rideau River and Range Road, south of Laurier Avenue East. Regardless of whether or not you're in the market for original art, or jewellery or other craft, Art in Strathcona Park is a pleasant way to spend a summer Saturday.

Is streaming down?! It is not working for me. Not on laptop, not on smatphone (either WiFi or cell net), not on FF or Chrome. OnDemand works, CBC works (except, boring ;^). FM over air works. Been down since Rainbow Country last night, I think. Again, for me. Anyone else?

CRAP. "Never mind" ... website as of 12:30 sez 'There is a power disruption at Carleton which is preventing us from being able to stream our programming at the moment. Hopefully will be resolved shortly. Keep tuned on FM, that still works! '
