Friday Drive
Friday September 8th, 2023 with Trevor Walker
[BlackCrack4SaleSampling]

Happy Friday Drivers! Apologies in advance for the shameless self promotion involved within this edition of the Friday Drive. All the selections you’ll all be hearing this evening will be available for sale tomorrow at Dominion Chalmers for the OTTAWA RECORD FAIR II, which I’ll get into more detail at the tope of our second hour. We’ll be checking out some favourites from numerous genres with a heavy does of Jazz, Funk, Soul, African & Latin grooves during the unwind portion in our first hour and as usual we’ll be taking it up in hour two with some early hip hop, electro, house and breaks to wind you up for the weekend. As always, thank you for taking the time to be here, happy listening and I hope you enjoy the show.

Brian Wallin is a 134 year old man struggling with a string of problems such as a orangutan who only speaks in vowels and a haunted abraham lincoln hat shaped motorcycle sidecar from 1969.
And it was the last time where Brian Wallin let an AI generator write a artist bio about his new band. The legend as many call him, not necessarily in public or even in private, is having a musical event happening on September 9th at Irene's. He has released three EPs during the pandemic when he was bandless and is now joined by a great band of: Jonny "Cables" Brownlee on guitar, Jamieson "Jamo" Mackay on bass, Ben "Jean Bonne" Deindstadt on drums, and Tobi "Keymaster" Otubli on Keyboard.

What to expect? a large assortment of originals and a couple of odd covers. For fans of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Fred Astaire, Cyndi Lauper and Reynaldo and The Dalliances.
Reynaldo - vox/guitar & synth
Chris Seibel - keys/synths
Rey-elle - Keys/vox
Dylan Watts - lead guitar
Matt Aston - drums
Chas Guay - bass
A night of networking in a beloved pub and full of opportunity for great musical synergy and buzzwords awaits you.

W hite Rabbit honcho RICK LAPLANTE marks another trip around the sun with an extended DJ set!

DJ Bio:
Born in Ottawa, Canada, Rick Laplante's main musical influences came in the early 90's during his university years in London, ON, due to its proximity to Detroit and Toronto. Frequent weekend visits to those major cities exposed him to some of the most groundbreaking underground sounds heard in the world during the early 90's. Rick has now been professionally DJing for over 30 years.
Rick's preferred club style is anything described as groovy and/or bouncy tech-house, yet he also draws influence from his eclectic music collection. A highly technical mixer, Rick includes flashes of myriad genres when playing house music sets, ranging from techno to disco, breaks to jazz, and from latin to lounge. He hasn't forgotten his musical roots from running the Detroit-Toronto corridor for years, you can always expect the unexpected while Rick blends several different auditory flavours into his Dj sets.
As well as promoting events in Ottawa, Rick has performed at many festivals and top tier events such as Harvest Festival, Playground, Groove & Bass, Cherry Beach, Alien InFlux Kajama cruise, and at notable venues in Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City, Portland, Hartford, Portsmouth, and many other cities across north eastern North America.

DJs Alex “Magnificent” Edwards Vs Trevor Walker
@Lounge164
164 Laurier Ave, W
Event:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/yeah-yeah-whatever-tickets-715954568387?aff=oddtdtcreator

Alex & I have been wanting to do an open format concept DJ night for a minute and a date finally presented itself at Ottawa’s favourite new underground spot, where an amazing array of very ecclectic music and parties have been popping for the last year.
We are both in agreement that neither of us have a night to truly dig deep into the crates and push the limits musically and tend to have a lot of fun plus nice chemistry on the decks as well as some of the deepest DJ crates in the city, music for days, figured Lounge 164 would be a good place for a tester session.
You can expect a medley of whatever vintage & contemporary grooves you’ve ever heard us spin with who knows what thrown in for good measure while keeping it bumping, fresh, vibey, deep, edgy & groovy.
All tempos, genres for days collaged as only Alex & I can.
Hope you’ll give it a taste.
All are welcome!
Spread the word!

"Great Day in Hip Hop" is a hip-hop multimedia project aimed at recognizing contributors to the culture in the NCR over the last 40 yrs.

This project is the brain child of local photographer David D Pistol. The project is a celebration of the National Capital Region's (NCR) hip-hop culture, movement, and community. We are looking forward to gather everyone together across generations for a group photo. We understand that many who contributed to the scene are unfortunately no longer with us, but we will be commemorating their contributions and memories in the project.
Have you made contributions to the NCR'hip-hop culture over the last 40 years? If yes, you are invited to take part in what promises to be a historical hip-hop multimedia project.
The project is inspired by Art Kane's photograph "A Great Day in Harlem (1958)". Over the years there have been multiple remakes, most notably the late great Gordon Park's "A Great Day in Hip Hop" taken in 1997 for XXL Magazine.
If you are interested in taking part in this historic project, please register.

The Soul Motivators deliver a fresh take on a classic sound, blending 1970’s funk and soul, psychedelic jams and hip-hop breaks. They’ve shared stages with greats like Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Lee Fields, Bernie Worrell and electrified crowds at major events such as the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, The PanAm Games, Sunfest, and Festival d'Ete. Their debut album, Free to Believe, was released on Do Right! Music in 2015, to national and international acclaim. 2017 saw the release of the Dirt on The Floor EP through Detroit’s Funk Night Records. A string of sold-out tour dates brought their high-octane live show to the masses.
Their 2020 album Do The Damn Thing was the first recording to feature the power-house vocal stylings of Shahi Teruko – whose relentless fire and electrifying performances have been shaking up audiences since she joined the band in 2015. Having celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2022, the band returned with a brand new album Do It Together (Do Right! Music) and electrified crowds across Western Canada on their recent summer tour.
