The PepTides is a nine-member band with a distinctive larger-than-life pop sound. The five vocalists and four instrumentalists draw on eclectic influences, with elements of funk, soul, gospel, folk, Latin and new wave. In 2017, the band was featured on the cover of Ottawa Life Magazine as “Ottawa’s Best Band.”
A snapshot of Canadian diversity, The PepTides is an eclectic community of musicians with a rainbow of faces: girls and guys, LGBTQ and straight, English and French, black and white and in between, Ukrainian, Mexican, Guyanese, Cree, Acadian, Armenian and Scottish.
The group is noted for its extravagant live performances featuring thick vocal harmonies, theatrical choreography and colourful visuals. The PepTides’ songs juxtapose upbeat music with lyrics that comment on far-reaching themes like love, hate, revenge, sex, religion, war—and getting ready for dates.
The band’s 2019 release, Galápagos, Vol. I, is a salute to Kurt Vonnegut’s 1985 novel Galápagos. The ten-song album forms a soundtrack through the darkly hilarious story, which includes a global financial crisis, World War III, an ill-fated nature cruise, and a million years of evolution.
Wnal attention by producing a full-length album in collaboration with Stuart McLean of CBC Radio’s Vinyl Cafe. They performed selections from the album live on the 20th anniversary recording of the show. Their 2014 release Love Question Mark was lauded by Exclaim! as “an ambitious collection of fun, daring, unadulterated, true blue art.” For Those Who Hate Human Interaction (2010) was named best album of the year by the Ottawa Citizen.

Cimafunk is an Afro-Cuban Rockstar. His namerefers to his heritage as a ‘cimarrón,’ Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery, as well as to the essence of his music that aims to subvert conventional sounds with rhythmic innovation.By bringing out the best in Cuban rhythms and traditions and infusing sounds and styles from Africa and the U.S.,Cimafunkhas created something unique and special, not only in terms of music but also with the values he stands for. He is redefining contemporary Cuban music as well as Afro-Latin identity and the fusion of black cultures. Cimafunk’s monumental second album El Alimentowas released in October 2021, receiving overwhelming praise.Rolling Stoneranked it #3 of theBest Spanish-Language and Bilingual Albums of 2021 and #23 of the 50 Best Albums of 2021. El Alimentowas also amongNPR’s Best Latin Music of 2021and #1 of Le Monde’s Latin Music favorites. Singles also made their way through2021 lists: Rómpelo ft. Lupe Fiascowas among NPR Alt.Latino’s best singles of 2021and Funk Aspirin ft. George Clintonin Remezcla’s 10 Best Indie Pop, Rock, & Chill Songs of 2021. Co-produced by Cimafunkand Grammy-award winning producer Jack Splash (CeeLo Green, Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys), the sonically dynamic collection masterfully blends Afro-Cuban sounds and rhythms with global funk, hip hop and soul—resulting in a progressive, head-bopping celebration of black music’s power to eclipse borders and cross-pollinate across cultures. Written and recorded over 2020, the album served as analimentofor the soul, a motivation to persevere through the pandemic, as Cimafunkspent countless hours studying decades of musical influences to help understand who he is musically and culturally, and thus, where he wanted this album to take him.

On stage, The Bongo Hop is the equivalent of a tropical storm served with hot brass, infectious Afro grooves, electric sounds, and heavenly vocals. His first album, Satingarona pt.1, was acclaimed as a remarkable genre-bending achievement. Meanwhile, their second album Satingarona pt.2 is also earning success. In preparation for the recording of a third album, The Bongo Hop earlier this year released "La Ñapa" a mini album with remixes, bonus tracks and some new songs.

Nidia Góngora is a singer/songwriter from the remote river village of Timbiquí, an Afro-Colombian community, whose location and cultural contrasts provide endless inspiration. Now based in Cali, she is considered one of the foremost artists of the typical marimba music of the South Pacific region, a guardian of the oral tradition and was awarded the title of ‘Afro-Colombian of the Year’ by Color de Colombia and El Espactador. Fronting leading regional outfits including Grupo Canalon and Canalón de Timbiquí (who were nominated in the Latin Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album), Góngora inspires many from the region with her techniques and work.

House of Paint / HoP, Canada's longest running Urban Arts Festival, is back for it's 20th year and our very own co-founder Arnaldo "Effect" is the Dance Coordinator! So you know the battles are going to be fire!
-------------------------------------------------
About:
"The House of PainT Festival is a FREE Outdoor HipHop Jam that showcases Graffiti, Breakdancing, Dj’s and MC’s from across Canada. It is one of Ottawa’s fastest growing community events. Since 2003, House of Paint has created space to exhibit and uplift hip hop culture in the Nation’s Capital.
House of PainT’s pillars are the elements of hip hop: Graffiti, DJ-ing, MC-ing (Poetry and Rap), and Street Dance are celebrated and elevated through concerts, competitions, workshops, and academic talks for all ages.
As an organization, House of PainT celebrates and elevates hip hop arts and culture in the Ottawa-Gatineau region by promoting artists practicing hip hop art forms, improving access to urban arts for people from all different communities, connecting artists with opportunities for professional development, and of course facilitating the creation and presentation of hip hop arts through the Festival and our other programs throughout the year."
-------------------------------------------------
He'll be taking care of the dancers, how the dance portion is run, and ensuring the event runs smoothly for the community.

Akin to the indigenous people in the Amazon who helped to find the 4 kids. Saying they were a life force ! It helps to broaden the horizon. Donald Trump (Agent Orange) and his acolytes are bad examples of living entities... Reactionary... Proto-fascist...

It is coming... beware.

What i mean is that extremist ideas from the far-right are becoming mainstream. Acceptable. All over the world.

1:23 AM, June 18th, 2023
Trevor Walker (host)
robert p thank you for the comments and I agree regarding the far-right ideology seeping into the mainstream but hoping it's just a fad. Fingers crossed!

It seems to be a reaction against the 60s and 70s... fear... intolerance and hatred for what is seen as being different...

3:32 PM, June 18th, 2023
robert p in gatineau
as being different than the mainstream, white male... WASP. It is on the march since the 80s, getting results. Sorry to bring you down. Thank goodness, we have the music. Power. You know, the religious right in the USA actually copied the civil rights movement. Religion being used to effect change in politics... at all levels of government, in the courts. The future ain't what it used to be...
