(in reality, I've just come back from Shiraz -- an excellent Iranian shop on Somerset -- with many nougats, turkish delighs (real ones), garlic pimiento cashews, and smoked almonds) (Almost sorry about that, for you I mean!)

1:30 PM, December 10th, 2021
P
delighTs

rose water turkish delights?

1:38 PM, December 10th, 2021
P
In these, the background chewy stuff is pomegranate flavoured; contains pistachios. 'Narli & Antepfistikli Halep Lokumu"

1:42 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
I never noticed a place called Shiraz. Newish? I don't hang in that hood much these days though.

1:43 PM, December 10th, 2021
P
I heartily recommend that shop, where there are literally hundreds of products or brands you've never seen before, but hey, it's Iranian, so not all that weird, right? Mediterranean. Stuffed grape leaves. Those cashews I mentioned. Lovely part-dried apricots. Etc.

What song is this at 1:47? So good

1:47 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Right now it is GOAT so before that Dylan guys was blabbing it was Quaballah Steppers

1:53 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Hey P - We will have to start charging for advertising LOL

1:54 PM, December 10th, 2021
Benoît
Shiraz used to be smaller, on Somerset, but more East. Got burned out. The owner managed to restart in these premises; they are also located on Somerset, a couple of blocks east of Booth. A few years now, 4-5? Nondescript 2-story building, traffic lights on the corner. Brick church across the way.

1:56 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
oh the middle eastern bakery on Percy and Somerset that "had a fire"?

1:58 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
I lived on the other side of the street above the laundromat.

1:59 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
We had a fire there once as well. Seems like Somerset attracts fires. Any new building on that street was built overtop another one that burnt down.

2:00 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Even with the fire station down the road on Preston.....

2:03 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
I just came across this headline: 'Thought I was going to die': Man attacked by 20 otters during morning walk in Singapore park.

2:04 PM, December 10th, 2021
B
Yeah, that one. Just checked on Google Earth.

2:06 PM, December 10th, 2021
Chris.
Hey! I lived on that corner above Tang Laundry as well many years ago. It was a bit crazy at times!

2:06 PM, December 10th, 2021
B
(That one: not the otters; the fire.)

2:06 PM, December 10th, 2021
B
(Also, I refuse to be drawn into making facile puns with the word "otter".)

2:07 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Hey Chris. How much was your rent? In 1996 i think i was paying about $525 for the one bedroom.

2:10 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Come on Benoit I bet you are the king of puns...

2:11 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
NOw it would probably be about $1600 plus the additional mandatory fire insurance lol.

2:12 PM, December 10th, 2021
Chris,
In 2007 it was up to $650 - maybe even for your old place as I've lived in 3 out of the 4 apartments up there. By 2009 when I left for good it had crept up to $675. The best was a $350 sublet in the early 2000s.

2:17 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Do you kids like the heavy fuzzed out sludge music? Would you like to hear more or less of it in the future?

2:19 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
I lived in the north western one, so at the back to the left if you are looking at it from the street. I spray painted my bathroom silver at the time. It looked cool or so I thought back then.

2:21 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Did you keep changing apartments because of sudden outbreaks of fire?

2:21 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
$650 is still not bad 11 years later though.

2:22 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Damn this is a long chat stream.

2:22 PM, December 10th, 2021
Chris.
Yup, I lived in that one for a while. Was my fave. Never experienced a fire up there and did not have fire insurance. Wish I would have had "drug dealers across the hall leading to a stabbing in the stairwell and swat style drug bust" insurance though. Shit got real!

2:27 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
wowsers. At least they got the right door though. I had the fire dept kick in my door one night due to a fire at the pharmacy next door. They were worried had spread into my ceiling. Fortunately i was not there but got a 6am call from my neighbour at my GF's (now my wife) telling me I had no front door anymore. After punching holes in my ceilings they concluded it had not spread.

2:32 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Some prostitutes comforting their clients in the stairwell once or twice, but never any stabby times when I was there.

2:33 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
It was probably one of the few apartments on Somerset that had no roaches though......

2:35 PM, December 10th, 2021
B
"comforting", heh...

2:37 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
:)

2:39 PM, December 10th, 2021
Chris.
Glad to read the place has a history of excitement. Cops got the right door during their bust. People who were showing up to buy whatever they were selling didn't always. Nothing beats random dopesick knocks on your door at anytime. Stairwell remained a hotspot for people who had nowhere else to go. Def no roaches! I appreciated that!

2:44 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Somerset - Bugs, Drugs, Tugs and damn tasty food.

2:46 PM, December 10th, 2021

Unfinished 1st floor flat at end of Preston E side...1991...forget...maybe $500...only fire was my weed burnin';-) luv the hood. Luciano's still got best garlic sausages. Miss the Indian store for brown basmati & real tea! Otters here dance for me on deadhead logs!

2:49 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Silly hillbilly. Otters are for kids!

holy cow, it's not your birthday. that's a lot of interactive. love reading interactive, while loving listening

2:51 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Don't get me wrong though, I loved that area when I was younger. I just wouldn't want to deal with it now.

2:51 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
It is a long interactive. SO long the playlist has disappeared.

2:52 PM, December 10th, 2021

2:52 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
Nice chatting. Till next week.

2:57 PM, December 10th, 2021
chris.
I miss the danger of that corner. Saw many crazy things in that area. Also think the first time i smelled crack was in that stairwell. Now feeling nostalgic. Maybe I'll walk by and see if there is a For Rent sign above the laundromat.

2:57 PM, December 10th, 2021
Dylan K. Hunter (host)
You could rent the laundromat. I believe it has closed and is for lease.
