Thursday May 15th, 2025 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Rhiannon Giddens (NAC, Sat. May 17th) and Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes (Live On Elgin, Sat. May 17th)

The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music, located at 388 Gladstone Avenue, just west of Bank. Visit Spaceman for all of your music making needs and don't forget they have a great repair shop and offer music lessons. Check out Spaceman online at: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ NOTE: This On Demand version of the Guest LIst features an additional 8 minutes of interview segments with both of our guests. These segments had to be edited from the FM broadcast to fit the 60 minute format of the show. We open today in conversation with the celebrated American roots artist Rhiannon Giddens, who is appearing at the National Arts Centre on Saturday (May 17th) with the Old Tyme Revue - a roots music group that includes her friend and former bandmate Justin Robinson. It's a fantastic conversation about the importance of roots music, celebrating musical heritage and keeping language alive through art. Rhiannon Giddens gives us a preview of what to expect when she performs on Saturday night and tells us about the variety of musical approaches she explores on her last three releases - two of which are featured on today's show. For tickets to see Rhiannon Giddens and the Old Tyme Revue at the NAC, use this link: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/37865 And for more information about Rhiannon Giddens, check out her website: https://rhiannongiddens.com/ Then we talk to Carey Mercer, the guitarist and vocalist with the Victoria-based rock group Frog Eyes. The group is appearing at Live On Elgin on Saturday night (May 17th) as they tour around Canada supporting their brand new album The Open Up. Carey tells us about some of the songs on the recording and how he went about writing and recording the songs with the group.
