Thursday October 31st, 2024 with Joe Reilly
Funding Drive with Chris Lee of the NACO, Old Man Luedecke and Rich Aucoin -- Brought to you buy Spaceman Music at 388 Gladstone Avenue - the place to go for all your music making needs!

The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music at 388 Gladstone Avenue - a great music store run by musicians and the place you want to visit for guitars, amps, keyboards and various music making accessories. It's also a place you can get instruments and gear repaired, leave an old instrument to sell on consignment or take music lesssons. If you want to make music then visit Spaceman Music. You can check out their website using this link: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ This is a funding drive show and here at CKCU we are trying to raise $175,000 by November 10th. This show has a goal to raise $3,500 as part of the drive. If you enjoy the interviews we air on this show each week please consider making your donation to the Guest List using this link: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/CKCU/p2p/fundingdrive2024/page/the-guest-list-on-ckcu-fm We open the show in conversation with Chris Lee, the principal tubist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Chris tells us how he was introduced to creating music in elementary school and speaks about the importance of music education in school. We also talk about the limited repertoire in classical music that focuses on the tuba and how he will be exploring some pieces from that repertoire on Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, 355 Cooper St. as part of the Music for a Sunday Afternoon series. For more information and tickets use the link below: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/36074 Next we talk to another Chris - Chris Luedecke who makes music under the name Old Man Luedecke. He is performing TONIGHT (Oct. 31st) at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage. We joke about playing a gig on Halloween. We then talk about his latest album She Told Me Where To Go and how he recorded with producer Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and made it a banjo-free album for the first time for Old Man Luedecke. He explains how he's playing solo at the NAC's Fourth Stage tonight and we talk about the themes on the songs we feature here - Drinking Down the Gold, The Raven and the Dove. For ticket information check out this link - and act fast as the gig is tonight: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/36908 And for more information about Old Man Luedecke and his music: https://www.oldmanluedecke.ca/ https://old-man-luedecke.bandcamp.com/album/she-told-me-where-to-go Finally we check in with Rich Aucoin. It's an interview we recorded earlier in the week and sadly we had to cut it short to fit the program's 60 minute format today. Rich tells us the thinking behind his recent single, New Nostalgia, and we also talk about his latest album (released today) Synthetic: Season 3. He tells us how this will be the final tour with his fantastic, interactive performances involving things like playing parachute games with the audience. He also tells us that he's opening up for himself on this tour - essentially playing an opening set tied to the music from his Synthetic series and then he is doing a second set of the amazing, uplifting music that truly engages audiences from his previous albums. Don't miss this show. You will feel alive and re-ignited after participating in a Rich Aucoin performance.
