Rachel Weldon talks about her amazing arts presenting collective - Debaser - Maeve Tavakoli tells us about the Warp program and Philippe Manasseh talks about Laylit

NOTE/ERRATUM: A couple of times in the program today I may say that Laylit is on Saturday, September 6th. I got the date right but NOT the day. It is in fact on Friday, September 6th. My apologies for that error. Today's show is all about Debaser and some events and a special program that Debaser is involved with. Since establishing in 2013, Debaser has become one of Ottawa’s leading independent and underground music and arts presenters, best known for its thoughtfully-curated, diverse programming, and care-oriented approach. It is an incorporated nonprofit organization whose mandate is to support and exhibit underrepresented creative artists. Rachel Weldon founded and leads Debaser and she joins us to kick off the show today, talking about the mandate of Debaser and how you can get involved with this great community organization. She takes us through some of Debaser's upcoming productions and notably tells us about Pique the Fall edition 2024. This is taking place on Saturday, September 28th and it is an awe-inspiring, fun night when Debaser animates all of the spaces in Arts Court (2 Daly Avenue) with music and other performing arts. Next up, Maeve Tavakoli joins us to talk about a very special mentorship program that Debaser is invovled with. Warp is designed to mentor local presenters, collectives and artists who want to bring more and diverse cultural events to life in the National Capital Region. It includes sessions designed to help new presenters produce their events and it is a paid learning opportunity. Those interested must apply to be part of the program, and Maeve tells us how interested individuals and groups can sign up. Finally, Philippe Manasseh joins us to tell us about Laylit, returning to Ottawa at Club SAW on Friday, September 6th. Phil tells us how Laylit got started and about how it celebrates the music of Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA.) It will be a blast you won't want to miss. Thanks for this Debaser interview. I have been intrigued and following Rachel's journey for some time and trying to figure out how she survives to create another day. Thanks Joe.. BTW...are you still teaching at the Festival/Community Program at Algonquin?

Thanks Neil. Debaser is an amazing organization and Rachel is a great community leader. I have not taught at Algonquin since the end of the 2001-2002 school year.
