Interviews with Katie Munshaw of Dizzy (Club SAW, Sept. 30) and Ken Yates (NAC, 4th Stage, Oct. 5)

We open the show in conversation with Katie Munshaw - the lead vocalist and principal lyricist for the Oshawa-based group Dizzy. We open the conversation talking about the group's single Barking Dog - a song that stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. Katie tells us how this strong metaphor came to her and she explains the inspiration behind several songs from the group's third album. She also tells us about how the group writes songs together and about some of the very personal touches added to several songs. Ken will be playing at the National Arts Centre on the Fourth Stage on Thursday, October 5th with a great band that will include Jim Bryson and Peter Von Althen. The concert is helping to kick off a major tour that will take Ken across Canada and down the US West Coast. We talk to Ken about the subtle beauty of the title track to his album Cerulean and how his songs document the lives of underdogs who overcome a lot of obstacles. Ken has just released Cerulean the Extended Edition with some additional songs. It's a fantastic album well worth checking out.
