Today we talk to Jon Matte of The Franklin Electric and Rich Aucoin

We open the show today featuring the new album by Montreal's The Franklin Electric. It's a gentle, personal collection of songs entitled "Oh Brother." Jon Matte of The Franklin Electric joins us on the show to talk about some of the themes explored in these songs, and how some of them stem from his relationship with his brother who lives with mental health challenges, addiction issues and who has been homeless at times. It's a very open discussion about issues around mental health and family, and Jon explains how he hopes that the songs may help people to be more open about their challenges and supportive of one another. Prior to Tuesday, I didn't know that Rich had been working on an incredible new recording project called Synthetic. It will eventually be a 4 volume collection of music that Rich has recorded on vintage synthesizers - predominantly housed in the National Music Centre in Calgary. Season 1 and Season 2 have been released and Rich shares about the process of putting this amazing project together. He also tells us a bit about what to expect when he plays at RBC Ottawa Bluesfest on the River Stage on Friday (July 14) at 9 p.m. Rich is stoked to be playing the late, headlining slot on that stage so he can use lots of great lighting in what will be another Rich Aucoin interactive extravaganza.
