Interview with Doug Hempstead of Area Resident and music by Laura Niquay and Pink Mountaintops

On today's show we feature an extended interview with Doug Hempstead who you may know as the traffic guy on CBC Ottawa, and who records and releases music under the alias Area Resident. In March he released his sixth album Quasar. We talk about some of the very personal themes Doug explores through these songs - and how he doesn't want them to sound like diary entries. We also talk about the important contributions that co-producer Jordan Zadorozny (Blinker The Star) makes to the Area Resident Sound and whether or not you might get a chance to experience Area Resident live in the near future. Check out the full album at the Area Resident website: https://arearesident.bandcamp.com/album/quasar We also feature a song by Indigenous artist Laura Niquay. You can see her performing at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage on Friday (May 20th.) https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/30429 And we play a song from the very fresh and very exciting new album from Pink Mountaintops, Peacock Pools. You can see Pink Mountaintops on Saturday night (May 21st) at the Rainbow Bistro. https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/pink-mountaintops-rainbow-bistro-tickets/11881445?pl=spectrasonic Take care. Get out and see some live music and support independent music anyway that you can.
