The Guest List
Thursday January 23rd, 2020 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Caveboy, Raphael Weinroth-Browne and we feature new music from Graven

We open the show with the music of Caveboy and a conversation with Lana Cooney who plays drums and does background vocals with the group. We talk to Lana about the rhythms on the album and she explains to us how her drumming style grew and changed under the guidance of producer Derek Hoffman. She also talks about why a group of hard working feminist women call themselves Caveboy... and it makes sense!! The group plays at Live on Elgin this Sunday night (January 26.) https://www.spectrasonic.com/e/caveboy-87060992773/ https://www.caveboymusic.com/ Next we check in with Ottawa cellist, Raphael Weinroth-Browne about his amazing new instrumental album, Worlds Within. Raphael explains how he wove together a number of musical ideas into a long 40 minute piece that flows seamlessly. It's broken into parts but he says it really needs to be appreciated as one long listening experience - and I agree but don't let that deter you from checking out some parts of it online to see if you love it! Raphael also talks about how he put this music together on his own with the help of his producer and how he recreates it in the live setting. You can see him perform next on March 20 at St. Brigid's Centre for the Arts. https://raphaelweinroth-browne.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/raphcello https://kamancello.com/home/raphael-weinroth-browne/ https://saintbrigidscentre.com/events/event/raphael-weinroth-browne-vinyl-release/ Finally we were supposed to talk to Matty McKechnie who is Graven, about his new album Years and the release party on Friday night (January 24) at Irene's Pub. Matty didn't make the call (he was driving to Montreal at the time) but we played three excellent songs from his new album and I encourage you to check out his show and pick up this new recording - it is very strong!! We hope to catch up with Matty on a future show about this album and the songs on it! https://graven.bandcamp.com/album/years http://irenespub.ca/event/graven-and-the-new-band-with-still-winter-hills/ Get out and see some live music this week and be sure to BUY the music of artists you enjoy... especially local, independent artists like the folks featured on the show today. They need your support to keep making music in the future... and they don't get paid enough by streaming services. Enjoy.
