Interviews with Steven Page and Charlotte Cornfield

Today we talk to two artists and feature the music of a couple of others who are coming to town. As well there is an amber alert that airs 2x during the show. We open with Steven Page who will be appearing at the National Arts Centre on Wednesday, May 1. Page is well known for his years as the co-frontman of the Barenaked Ladies. He has released 6 albums since leaving that group and his latest album is a very personal affair that touches on a wide range of ideas and features a broad scope of musical treatments - everything from gritty rock that might have fit on U2's debut or a Buzzcocks album and big band type sounding songs and almost everything in between. We spend some time exploring how his new album has managed to embrace so much great sounding music and still sound so cohesive. Exclaim! Magazine said of this album: "He's not just surveying his musical influences here; he's giving them a new sense of purpose." We talk about how he will bring this music to life as part of a trio and Page reveals that many of these songs may become part of a musical that is taking shape. Stay tuned for more details if/when that comes to fruition. https://www.stevenpage.com/ https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/19940 http://exclaim.ca/music/article/steven_page-discipline_heal_thyself_pt_ii We had hoped to talk to Bear's Den and Tim Baker on the show today but they got caught up in touring details today, so we played music from each act. Tim Baker is playing at the Bronson Centre this Friday, April 26. Bear's Den is in Ottawa at the 27 Club on May 22. https://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1827484-tim-baker-charlotte-cornfield-ottawa/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1820886-bears-den-ottawa/ We did hear from Charlotte Cornfield who is on the road as the opening act with Tim Baker and will be with him at the Bronson Centre on Friday, April 26th. We have a great conversation about her awesome new album The Shape of Your Name. We talk about how Leif Vollebekk is a good friend and may have influenced a few songs on this new recording. We also talk about she recorded the songs in different locations with different musicians and how it all still hangs together nicely. It's beautiful, textured album. Give it a listen. https://charlottecornfield.com/ http://www.leifvollebekk.com/ Get out and see some live music this week. And buy the music of the artists you love. Streaming music doesn't pay artists enough!!
