The Guest List
Thursday March 28th, 2019 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Mike Edel, Stephen Fearing, Doug Hempstead of Area Resident, and Dead Soft

We open the show talking to Mike Edel who has just released a brand new album entitled Thresholds. He will be in town on Tuesday, April 2 at Cafe Dekcuf performing with a full band. MIke called in from Germany today and talked about the personal nature of the songs on this album and what went behind the unique production of the beautiful song Ocean View. https://mikeedel.com/ Next up we check in with Stephen Fearing - a long time favourite of ours on the Guest List. Stephen talks about how he put together his latest album The Secret of Climbing - recording it totally direct with just 2 mics and almost no effects, no mixing board or anything really. He also talks about some new work with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and how he's putting together his setlists these days. He's up at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield on Friday night, March 29... but it's sold out!! Which is great for Stephen but not for you if you wanted to go! http://stephenfearing.ca/ On Saturday night (March 30) Area Resident is playing at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield. We talk to Doug Hempstead between traffic reports on CBC Radio this afternoon. He is Area Resident and we talk about his recording process and how just like Todd Rundgren he puts a lot of it together by himself, making him the Hermit of the Ottawa Valley. He also talks about how he bounces a lot of his musical ideas off of Jordon Zadorozny (known to many for his work as Blinker the Star) and who plays with him for live gigs like the one this Saturday at the Black Sheep. He also gives us the hilarious story behind the song Driving to La Peche in Opposing Lanes. It's not to be missed! https://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ https://www.facebook.com/AreaResidentMusic/ Finally we check in for a quick chat with Nick of Dead Soft. The band is playing at the Dominion Tavern tonight and will be releasing some new music later this year. Nick tells us how the band's sound has evolved over the years and how they will be playing lots of new stuff on this tour - along with lots of great favourites as well. https://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1803665-dead-soft-ottawa/ https://deadsoft.lnk.to/NewEmotion Get out and see some live music this week and be sure to actually BUY some music from artists you love. They cannot survive if you just stream their music and they need you to pay for downloads or CDs or vinyl releases... keep music alive!
