The Guest List
Thursday September 7th, 2017 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with artists at City Folk including Lucy Dacus, Brendan of Broken Social Scene and Jenn Grant. And we talk to Camille Delean as well.

Today we focus on artists who will be appearing as part of City Folk next week and wrap up the show with Camille Delean who is playing at Pressed on Friday (Sept. 8) https://cityfolkfestival.com/ We open the show in conversation with Lucy Dacus. This young American singer-songwriter has released her debut album and is making lots of new fans with her mix of gritty guitar and thoughtful, introspective lyrics. We talk about her travels as an artist and how she's meeting lots of people while touring. She also shares some insights into the creation of the album and her approach to songwriting. Don't miss her Ottawa debut at City Folk on Saturday, September 16 on the City Stage at 4:30. Go early to check her out - she's a must see! http://lucydacus.com/ Next up we check in with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene. The musical collaborative project has returned after a 7 year hiatus with a fantastic recording entitled Hug of Thunder. Brendan talks about what brought the group back together and about the amazing female voices in the group. In the middle of that interview we were joined by Jenn Grant. We talked to Jenn about her latest album Paradise and how she approached writing and recording for that record. Brendan and Jenn talk about the different challenges appearing on stage as a member of a 10-piece group (Brendan in Broken Social Scene) and as a member of a duo (Jenn with her partner in music and life Daniel Ledwell) and they share their opinions on life on the road in a tour bus. It's a fun interview with these two great artists who will be a City Folk. Jenn Grant is appearing on the RavenLaw Stage at 7:30 on Thursday, September 14. Brendan and Broken Social Scene perform on the City Stage on Friday, September 15 at 7:30. http://www.jenngrant.com/ http://brokensocialscene.ca/ Finally we had a brief chat with Camille Delean who has just released her debut album and will be appearing at Pressed on Friday, September 8th. The album Music on the Grey Mile took about four years to produce and involved Camille making the original recordings overseas and then bringing them to Montreal (when she moved back to Canada) and finishing up the production with Michael Feuerstack. It's a lovely debut with intimate songs and Camille's gentle voice reminding me at times of early Kathleen Edwards. She's performing with a full band (including Michael!) so this is a show to definitely check out this week. http://camilledelean.com/ Get out and see some live music this week!
