Interviews with Michelle Willis, Terra Lightfoot and Frank of the Cardboard Crowns

Today we talk to Michelle Willis who has (finally!) released a collection of her own songs after years of collaborating with others on their recordings and performing on the road. We talk about artists she has worked with over the years who have helped to shape the direction of her work. Her beautiful, gentle album See Us Through contains a stirring collection of songs and she will bring them to life with a full band at the Black Sheep Inn on Friday, January 20 (and then it's on to Petit Campus in Montreal on Saturday.) http://www.michellewillis.ca/ https://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ Next up we check in with Terra Lightfoot who is coming to Ottawa to perform at Pressed on Friday night (January 20.) Terra has a big, powerful singing voice and she plays a mean guitar as well - well it's not always mean as she spins gentle songs and kicks butt on her last album, 2014's Every Time My Mind Runs Wild. We talk about her guitar's tone, how well her guitar sound works with her voice and convincing the producers of her last album to let her use her own trusty guitar. http://terralightfoot.com/ http://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1402388-terra-lightfoot-ottawa/ Finally we squeeze in a quick chat with Frank Cunningham, the bass player with Aylmer Quebec's Cardboard Crowns. The group is playing a couple of local gigs in the next few weeks - this Saturday night (Jan. 20) at Minotaure on Kent in Hull and then at the House of Targ on February 10th. (Along with the Planet Smashers.) We talk about how the group is playing bigger gigs with other acts and making new fans everywhere. This means more and more people are showing up with cardboard crowns upon their heads and Frank tells us that some of them have "sick"poetry written on them. That's the good kind of "sick" ... http://www.thecardboardcrowns.com/ http://www.houseoftarg.com/ We also played a track by Blackalicious. The California rap duo is appearing at Zaphod Beeblebrox on Saturday night - January 20. http://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1382616-blackalicious-ottawa/ Get out and see some live music this week.
