The Guest List
Thursday October 9th, 2014 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Kinnie Starr, Sloan, The Wilderness of Manitoba and Current Swell

Four great acts/artists on the show today! First up Kinnie Starr called a bit late but she only needs a few minutes to make an impact with her positive vibe and her passionate approach to making music and spreading the word about important causes like conserving our fresh water! She comes to Ottawa as part of the Blue Dot tour at the Centrepoint Theatre on Friday, October 17th. Check out her solid new album, "From Far Away." Sloan has released a great new album called "Commonwealth" that finds each band member recording one side of this four-sided double album (if you're old like me you know what this all means... hell the vinyl version may even have a "gatefold sleeve".) The good news is that all four sides are Ace Frehely good... that's another old reference to when KISS released four solo albums simultaneously and really only the Ace album was worth anybody's time! Unlike the KISS experiment, this is not a band in decline as Commonwealth finds Sloan in fine form and this is one of the group's strongest albums ever. We talk to Jay Ferguson about the band's place in the pantheon of Canadian rock and the process of making this new album (and KISS.) Sloan will be at Mavericks on November 28th. The Wilderness of Manitoba has released a new album called Between Colours. It's an album that features a lot of songs that seem to be addressing themes of transition, moving, departure etc. and the sounds on this album signal a bit of a departure from the band's previous lush sounding album. Amanda Balsys joins us to talk about the band's grittier sound and how prog rock may have crept into a song or two... honest!! The band plays at Mavericks next Saturday night - October 18th. Finally Scott Stanton dropped in for a quick chat. Scott is with Current Swell and the band plays at Mavericks on Friday night (October 10th.) The band's new album is called Ulysses and features a wide range of musical styles. Scott tells us how the band managed to develop an audience in Brazil and just returned from a recent tour of that South American country. Apologies again this week to listeners and to the artists for having to cut songs short... but we wanted to get everyone in for a chance to chat... and we only have 60 minutes for the Guest List. Lots of great music... so get out and see some live music this week.
