The Ottawa Jazz Festival: Interviews with Thus Owls and Jill Barber

Tonight we feature two interviews with amazing women who will be performing at the Ottawa Jazz Festival in the next few days. Thus Owls' singer Erika Angell talks about her band's new album Turning Rocks. She discusses the songwriting, her vocal approach and the influence of PJ Harvey and Kate Bush on the new album. Thus Owls performs for free at the Ottawa Jazz Festival on Tuesday, July 1 (Canada Day) at 5:30 p.m. at the Laurier Avenue Canadian Music Stage. (www.thusowls.com) Jill Barber is also at the Jazz Festival and she performs on Saturday, June 28 at 6:30 at the Dominion Chalmers United Church. Her new album is Fool's Gold and is full of engaging songs that harken back to bygone eras but sound fresh and every bit like they belong with us today. Jill talks about trying to write and record songs that sound like they've been with us forever - like the classics by greats like Ray Charles. (http://www.jillbarber.com) Enjoy the interviews and the great music and get out to see some live music this week! For information on the Jazz Festival got to www.ottawajazzfestival.com
