A seasonal suite--from my own eclectic perspective.

My listening is always strongly influenced by the season, and October, November, and December, particularly, have me listening to a lot of Baroque music. Today we will hear a very lengthy musical playlist beginning and ending with music by Handel in d minor. What we stuff inside these musical bookends will be varied, rich, and unexpected. Join me in listening to seasonal music, as I hear it.

After that lengthy set bookended by Handel's d minor pieces, we will finish the show with the ecstatic Magnificat by Bach, in a blazing D major. One of the most explicitly Christmas-related works which will appear on my program. This is Bach at his most joyful and exuberant, particularly in the incomparable recording by The English Baroque Soloists and Monteverdi Choir.
Magnificat in D BWV 253
Johann Sebastien Bach/Nancy Argenta, Patrizia Kwella, Charles Brett, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson, David Thomas, The Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists, John Eliot Gardiner - Magnificat - Philips
