Annual Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan memorial show: This year, an exceedingly rare bootleg recording of Nusrat's first appearance in Ottawa!
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. October 13, 1948 - August 16, 1997. His music means more to me than almost any other. This year I have an extremely rare recording of an early appearance by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in Ottawa. This was probably his first concert in Ottawa, a house concert, perhaps around 1990 or even earlier. I was given this bootleg recording of the house concert twenty years ago, and have never played it on my show before. He sang expansive versions of some of his most well known songs, including a 45 minute version of Haq Ali Ali, the longest performance I know. I miss you Nusrat.

The next set features another extended song by Nusrat from the Ottawa bootleg. I know this piece, I am sure I have several other recordings of it by Nusrat, but I have not identified them in my very large Nusrat discography. Bookending this performance, are live performances of "Manaqib Ali", the first by Abida Parveen who performs Qawaali solo without a chorus live at the Fez Festival 2001, the second by Nusrat of course, live in Paris 1985. |

If anyone knows the title of the 2nd bootleg track, please let me know!
