Starting 2021 with a glorious sound! Tyshawn Sorey's "Unfiltered".

We will begin this new year with a glorious sound from American composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey's 2020 album "Unfiltered". This album was recorded in fall of 2019 with a sextet comprised of Nathan Reising, alto sax, Morgan Guerin, tenor sax, Lex Korten, piano, Sasha Berliner, vibraphone, Nick Dunston, bass, and Sorey on drums. They played a two hour continuous set in three parts, sounding like a mix of composed and improvised music. We will only have time to hear Part I. It begins softly with patterns on the piano, with a few interjections from the vibraphone, and builds into a thick, intense, and wild texture, becoming a glorious sound! The album is only available on Bandcamp.
We will hear Tyshawn Sorey in the second hour. We will start with the Hallelujah Chicken Run Band. Analog Africa just recently reissued "Take One", their 2nd release, first time on vinyl and a new CD run. To celebrate, Analog Africa founder Samy Ben Rejeb shared these three unreleased tracks by the Hallelujah Chicken Run Band, probably from around 1974-75.
