Analog Africa in Ottawa! The brand new album from Didem Basar

Samy Ben Redjeb, the founder of Analog Africa is also a club dj, but not your run-of-the-mill club dj, he spins from his huge collection of vinyl he has spent years finding on trips to Africa and Brazil. He will be spinning vinyl at the Mercury Lounge tomorrow night in his North American premiere with vanishingly rare music, turning the Mercury Lounge into a club from 1960's or 70's Cotonou, Mogadishu, Douala, Belem, Ouagadougou and elsewhere! https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/analog-africa-tickets-87713265739 We will also hear the brand new release from Canadian musician Didem Basar. Didem Basar grew up and learned music in her native Turkey and was a teacher at the Instanbul State Conservatory until she moved to Canada in 2007. This enabled her to share and explore music with musicians from diverse backgrounds, particularly with Constantinople which she became a member of. "Levantine Rhapsody" is her first Canadian solo album with her compositions melding Turkish and Western music, with Guy pelletier, flute, Brigitte Dajczer, violin, Noémy Braun, cello, Patrick Graham, percussion.
