Polish composer Karol Szymanowski was deeply affected by Goral, the folk music of the Polish highlands, and employed motifs and modes found in Goral to compose a series of mazurkas. The standard symmetry of the mazurka dance form is obscured by Szymanowki's manipulation of rhythm. Quebec-born pianist, Marc-Andre Hamelin perform 20 Mazurkas Opus 50 from his 2003 Hyperion recording,"Szymanowski: The Complete Mazurkas."
