Constantinople & Ablaye Cissoko and some astonishing new Brazilian jazz born out of bigotry

Tomorrow evening the great collaboration of Kiya Tabassian's Constantinople & Senegalese Kora master and singer Ablaye Cissoko are appearing in Ottawa at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne. A superb and unique melding of Manding and Persian musics. We will hear them first alone, and then together. Friday night! 7:30 pm https://musicandbeyond.ca/event/in-the-footsteps-of-the-griot-sur-les-traces-du-griot/ We will also hear some new Brazilian jazz with an album that had its genesis in a bigoted remark directed to the Paulistano double-bassist Arthur Decloedt's Brazilian music in France. Decloedt and saxophonist Filipe Nader decided both to turn that negative remark to a positive one, formulating a “savage” kind of Brazilian jazz, to differentiate it from bossa nova and fusion, the styles generally perceived in Brazil as “jazz”. They invited another saxophonist (Oscar Ferreira), a trumpeter (Amilcar Rodrigues) and a drummer (Guilherme Marques) to play mainly improvised music. Because the refered bigot was also mentioning the work done by the singer-songwriters, the next decision was to make versions of songs written by the new generation of Brazilian Popular Music and treat them the way Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra used to with the revolutionary hymns of the world. They called their new band Musica de Selvagem with their new album "Volume Unico"
