Annual Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Memorial Show: remembering Nusrat with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

For this year's edition, most of the program will be given over to Nusrat's nephew and artistic heir Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, son of Nusrat's younger brother Farroukh Fateh Ali Khan (who was lead harmonium player, accompanying singer and often composer in Nusrat's party). Nusrat had been training Rahat since he was 6 years old and he joined Nusrat's party full-time as a teenager. He took over the party after Nusrat's death in 1997. We will hear a concert Rahat Fateh Ali Khan gave in Royal Festival Hall in London in 2007 in a memorial concert for the 10th anniversary of Nusrat's death. For the concert, he performs all well-known songs by Nusrat, however his instrumentation is a bit different, along with the tablas, harmonium, and singers, he added a saxophone, keyboards, and bass. This changes the music, and I quite like it. He needed to bring something different to these great tunes as performing them strictly as Nusrat did--no one can equal Nusrat. He remains the greatest...
