David Dalle
Thursday September 14th, 2017 with David Dalle
Dastan Ensemble with singer Mahdieh Mohammadkhani. Hamid Motebassem, leader of Dastan, will be accompanying Mahdieh Mohammadkhani in Ottawa Friday evening.

Today we hear the exceptional singer Mahdieh Mohammadkhani with the Dastan Ensemble in a piece composed by Dastan's Hamid Motebassem entitled "A Window". Like many of Dastan's works, this suite features extensive and rich instrumental writing. It is based on a poem by Forough Farrokhzad, a 20th century Iranian poet who died tragically in a car accident in 1967 aged only 32. Hamid Motebassem, leader of Dastan, will be accompanying Mahdieh Mohammadkhani in Ottawa Friday. Concert info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1928961157383354/

Breaking a fairly strict taboo on my show, playing a single movement from a Beethoven quartet (instead of the entire piece). Beethoven headed this slow movement, one of the most astonishingly beautiful he wrote, with "Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit, in der lydischen Tonart" -- "Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity, in the Lydian Mode" after recovering from a severe illness. This thought is very much in my mind today.
