Orchestre Baobab with their first new album in nearly a decade! Some Highlife classics from Ghana, more Cuban music, Ethiopian piano and more.

Orchestre Baobab are back with their first new album in nearly a decade! The new album "Tribute to Ndiouga Dieng" is in honour of their Wolof singer Ndiouga Dieng who died in 2016. Orchestre Baobab was formed in 1970 and has seen some personnel change, but still features several original or long time members, including the singers Balla Sidibé and Rudy Gomis, saxophonists Issa Cissoko and Thierno Koite, bassist Charlie Ndiaye. It also features some new members: Wilfried Zinzou on trombone and Abdouleye Cissoko on the kora, the first time this classic instrument has been added to the Orchestre. It also features guest appearances, by the founding singer Thione Seck and Cheikh Lo. A wonderful, sweet, and nostalgic revision of old classics from Guinea, the Gambia, and the Cassamance region of Senegal. We will also hear some Ghanian Highlife classics, some more live Afro-Cuban All-Stars, and Ethiopian piano.
