The Tallis Scholars and Arvo Part; Shahram Nazeri
Today we hear some absolutely breathtakingly beautiful music. The Tallis Scholars, one of the most renowned a cappella groups specializing in Renaissance polyphony. Ottawa is being treated to a rare appearance by the Tallis Scholars this Monday evening when they perform at Notre-Dame Basilica music of Renaissance composers John Sheppard and their namesake Thomas Tallis as well as contemporary music of Arvo Part! This will be a spectacular concert. If you have not heard Renaissance polyphony before, you will be astounded by its incredible rich and exquisite ocean of sound. On today’s show we hear the Tallis Scholars perform music from 16th century composer William Mundy as well as pieces by Arvo Part from their most recent release "Tintinabuli", only their 2nd album in their nearly 4-decade career of contemporary music.
Keeping with the profound and beautiful today, we hear the incomparable Persian classical and Sufi vocalist Shahram Nazeri, my favourite of many great Persian singers, we hear him from his album “The Book of Austerity” with compositions by Farrokhzad Layegh.
Music from Uzbekistan, Turkey, Northern India will round out the show.

Highly cathartic. Have the door closed to my office, and my speakers turned up. I can work some other day.
