Looking back to some great Jazz festival highlights and forwards to Music and Beyond
Today a wide mix of music both looking back at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and forwards to Music and Beyond which begins this weekend. We venture to the Netherlands for some new Afrofunk from the Dutch ensemble Jungle By Night as well the wonderful funk and jazz of Snarky Puppy and their new album with the Dutch jazz orchestra Metropole Orkest. We will hear great pianists including Abdullah Ibrahim and recent solo album The Song is My Story and Argentinean Pablo Ziegler, a protégé of the late Astor Piazzola, who will be in Ottawa Monday and Tuesday nights. Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu with eclectic jazz improvisations with Nguyen Le and Dhafer Youssef. Sitarist Irshad Khan who will be performing this Monday afternoon.
