The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind; French Gypsy group Bratsch, the ghost of Astor Piazzolla
Today we will hear a wide range of music from Central and Southern Europe including the last album by the French Gypsy group Bratsch. Their latest album came out in 2011 and I bought it then, and apparently completely forgot I had it. I noticed it in my collection just this past week and finally gave it a belated listen to, and it is wonderful!
We will also hear several great works by Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov, his piece "The Prayers and Dreams of Isaac the Blind" is based on dreams of Klezmer music and Jewish prayers. The ghost of Astor Piazzolla haunts the program with Golijov's "Last Round", composed as a tribute to that great master for two string quartets and Double bass.
