Hi Jeff, Are you live in studio today? All of us at CCB were ordered to work from home. Actually I’m jumping up and down about the snow—I can’t wait to get out on my cross country skis! Yippie!!!!

Shelley Ann Morris
Can I make a song request? Here is a song I heard long long ago on CKCU. Carolyn Mas: Snow.

Good morning! But that song, High Heels in the Snow! Saaaaaaaaad. (It's ok, but dang, the song is sad. Hadn't heard it before, that I can remember.)

7:43 AM, February 13th, 2025
Jeff Larocque (host)
I'll see if I can dig that one up Shelley Ann. Thanks!

7:44 AM, February 13th, 2025
Jeff Larocque (host)
Yes Benoit. It's on Lynn's album that has the kids on a toboggan

Love this Angelique Francis song! Actually I LOVE shovelling snow—what a workout!

7:46 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
I had a look a the snow from inside, and though "aha, we have snow". Then I stepped out, all girded in big jacket and moccasin boots and everything. My door scraped the snow. Oooookay! Side door? A two-foot drift! Anyway, did maybe 30, 40 minutes of snow rearrangement. There was about a cm or 2 of fresh stuff by the time I took a break. Good day!

7:47 AM, February 13th, 2025
Jeff Larocque (host)
It's gonna be a three-shovel day Benoit!

7:55 AM, February 13th, 2025
Jeff Larocque (host)
What is your go-to snow shovel style? The push-scoop, the curved scraper or the standard square head? Or... a flame thrower?

7:57 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
Jeff, hah! You're absolutely right! I like to use one of thos glider shovels, the large two-handed ones. So much snow it can't be used to start. There's also the problem of where to put the snow, street side especially. Anyway, those people who bought a snow blower and have been waiting will be pleased, in a masochistic sort of way.

7:59 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
I have 1) that snow glider; 2) an aluminum scraper (the kind that rolls the snow); a square steel shovel, which was used at first this morning. I won't mention the other stuff, ice chipper, roof 'reverse shovel', ... I guess I did mention them.

I had a shared driveway when I lived in Toronto that tapered to a single vehicle width between our two houses, and then widened at the back into separate garages. Do you think my neighbour EVER shoveled the full single lane spot between the two houses?? NOOO!!! I hope nobody has a neighbour like that.

Isn't it great that #47 is going to cooperate closely with Putin to end the war on Ukraine? He can't even be decent to Americans, but he'll cooperate closely with the Russian tyrant... What a time! Ooops, sound off (by me). #47's voice came on the Beeb...

Benoit
Your comment (laneway): some people think in terms of what they can get away with, and it never seems to dawn on them that they're being cheap, pissy people -- and that everybody knows. We usually protect ourselves from realising such things.

8:07 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
Incidentally, radar shows (and the Accuweather site predicts) snow tapering off in maybe 40 minutes. So, except for recurring bits, it looks like the main dump may be a little lighter than what CBC was saying even this morning (snow 'til this pm, they were saying)

8:09 AM, February 13th, 2025
Linda
Happy World Radio Day Jeff and thank you for being there!

When I was living at home growing up in Westboro we shovelled our driveway as a family—we had fun! It was good exercise and then we’d come in and have a hot drink. We slept well, too. Now, my Mum’s neighbour uses his snowblower and helps her out.

8:12 AM, February 13th, 2025
Jeff Larocque (host)
Thanks Linda! Glad we're here to help you get thru the day

Dress warmly, put on a playlist of good tunes or an audiobook, some ear buds tucked under your hat and you are good to go for a shovelling session. Anyone got a song suggestion. How about Snow Shanty by Trilogy.

I'm older now, and frankly, I see any physical work as a good thing, to keep in shape. I'm a year-round cyclist, but it's harder to get motivated to do a go-and-come-back at -18 and windy, or... today. So, snow moving!

8:17 AM, February 13th, 2025
Terry
Hey Jeff! A little buried this morning. Tired of winter yet? I am! lol

8:45 AM, February 13th, 2025
Larry

8:54 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
TERRY! Geez, for "once" that we're actually getting a winter!

8:58 AM, February 13th, 2025

Thanks, Jeff! Love this song! Happy World Radio Day. I will be listening to the broadcast here at home. First 'black' songs I remember hearing were by Ella Fitzgerald, Lous Armstrong, The Duke etc. Lucky to have been raised on Jazz thanks to my Dad.

9:10 AM, February 13th, 2025
Benoît
STEVIE WONDER! Just the opening riff, and you KNOW it's Superstition! He was so good for such a long time!

9:11 AM, February 13th, 2025
Gilles
Carolyn Mas Nigerian played Porter Hall. I saw her there in the late 70s share 1:06 used to play music a lot often wondered where she went.

9:13 AM, February 13th, 2025
Terry

I would have loved to have heard Carolyne Mas live Gilles. I'm seriously heading straight to the record bins to try to find that 1979 release.

My entire driveway was well over a foot deep when I shovelled it this morning at 5 am. I have already shovelled it a second time and that was well over another 5-8 cm the second time. It is still coming down in buckets

9:28 AM, February 13th, 2025
