The School of Music of the University of Ottawa is pleased to present a concert featuring the University of Ottawa Wind Ensemble under the direction of Daniel Gress.

HOLST: Mars, the Bringer of War
Jan Van der Roost: Ponte Romano
William Schuman: When Jesus Wept and Chester Overture (New England Triptych)
Beethoven: Egmont Overture
Karel Husa: Music for Prague 1968
Charles Marie Widor: Toccata, Symphony No. 5 for Organ
A graduate of the University of Evansville, Daniel Gress was Principal Horn of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) for 25 years and made several tours with the NACO throughout North America, Europe and the Far East. He was a soloist with the NACO on several occasions and was a frequent participant in its Music for a Sunday Afternoon Series performing with some of the world’s best known chamber music specialists. Prior to his coming to Ottawa, Mr. Gress was a student of Philip Farkas at Indiana University and was Principal Horn with the NORAD Band in Colorado Springs. He is presently Brass Sector Coordinator and conductor of the Wind Ensemble for the uOttawa School of Music, where he has been teaching since 1977. Mr. Gress was co-host of the Wind Conductors’ Symposium held in Ottawa in collaboration with the Ontario Band Association in January 2010, was a Guest Clinician at École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges (Ottawa) in May 2010, and a Guest Conductor for “Music Monday” events held at the University of Guelph-Kemptville.
Admission to this concert is a voluntary contribution at the door.
