Solos Going Steady: Shanks, Muir, McDermott, Hynes & Page
8:00 PM on Saturday Feb. 29th, 2020
Irene's Pub, 885 Bank St.

The 6th annual edition of the Solos Going Steady show!

Spend your Leap Year Saturday night at Irene's with these fine singer-songwriters who will all play relatively short solo sets.

During those long post-holiday, winter months, folks in need are not alway top of mind, so we originally put this show together to help support the Ottawa Food Bank. We'll be collecting donations. Happy to accept none perishables, but cash is always best. Look for the big jar at the door, or on the bar!

Set times will be posted here closer to the show, but sets will start at 9pm!

KRISTA MUIR: https://kristamuir.bandcamp.com/

Krista Muir lives in a world of surrealism, cuckoo clocks and antique lampshades. Her multilingual pop albums have taken her and alter ego Lederhosen Lucil around the world since 2001 and led to collaborations with DJ Kid Koala, director Kara Blake and Daily Tous Les Jours. "The Tides" is her 7th release to date, exploring her talents as composer, engineer, musician and graphic designer.

PATRICK SHANKS: https://twitter.com/shocktheshanker

Garage punk veteran Patrick Shanks is a staple on the Ottawa music scene and has fronted such legendary outfits as the Glads, The Knurlings and Shanker & Romps to name just a few. Patrick is also currently rocking with The Sir John A MacDonalds. Hear Patrick's great LP 'Down To A Dull Roar' here: http://www.patrickshanks.com

JON HYNES: http://www.jonhynesmusic.com/

Making his own 4-track recordings in his basement just made Hynes a normal teenager growing up in Newfoundland. When you’re recording yourself it’s beneficial to play more than one instrument; Hynes taught himself to play everything in the house. That jack-of-all trades approach has served him well when making his debut album ‘Watchful Creatures’ with producer/engineer James Bunton (Ohbijou, Donovan Woods). Working again with Bunton on his upcoming sophomore album ‘Cardinal Giant,’ Hynes enlisted some help from Ottawa’s finest musicians (Martin Charbonneau, Pat Johnson, Rolf Klausner) to help create an energetic and live sounding recording. This collaboration has resulted in an uncommonly bold, confident and fully realized follow up to 2014s ‘Watchful Creatures’. You can check out more and listen to some of his wonderful songs here: http://www.jonhynesmusic.com/music/

ELIZABETH MCDERMOTT: https://elizabethmcdermott.bandcamp.com

Elizabeth McDermott is an Ottawa based singer-songwriter who is best known for fronting this city's beloved 'Banditas'. Listen to some of Liz's great songs here: https://elizabethmcdermott.bandcamp.com/

CHRIS PAGE: http://www.chrispagemusic.com

Chris Page is an Ottawa-based, independent songwriter known for fronting bands Expanda Fuzz, Camp Radio and The Stand GT.

He has released four solo records that range from wistful folk to stripped-down pop. From Germany to the U.S. to Australia, Chris has released records on independent labels the world over in the 25+ years he’s been making music.

His new LP "Decide To Stay And Swim Again" will be released in April of this year. This album is a stunning collection of acoustic, indie folk songs and is Chris's most stark release to date. The album was recorded entirely in his home studio and Chris prides himself as an artist who creates and releases his music independently, in the true spirit of DIY.
