World AIDS Day takes place on December 1st each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. It is estimated that 36.9 million people are living with HIV around the world, and 65,000 people here in Canada, and 6 Canadians are infected with HIV everyday. This year, in recognition of the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, the AIDS Committee of Ottawa is organizing and hosting educational and awareness-raising events throughout the entire AIDS Awareness Week from Nov. 26th to Dec. 1st. Please see our line-up of events and join us in raising awareness in our community and across our city.
