Ottawa Showbox presents...
Scattered Clouds (OTT dark experimental)
https://scatteredclouds.bandcamp.com/
Scattered Clouds is the sound of post apocalyptic romanticism. The Hull, Québec experimental band underscores auto-fictional narratives with brooding rhythm, cavernous vocals, and precise noise. Terse retro-synthetic soundscapes call to mind the works of Vangelis or Tangerine Dream, paired with the uneasy ecstasy of Suicide or the tense, thundering underbelly of SUUNS.
Deux Trois (Kingston doomy pop)
https://deuxtrois.bandcamp.com/
Pacey and Nelson met in 2015 at The Artel in Kingston. They ended up playing a number of the same shows as Konig and Slow High, respectively. When they got together, Slow High, with its dark pop influence, heavy rhythm section and 80s-inspired analog synths, brought Pacey to a place musically where she hadn't been before; Nelson and Pacey continued to play music together. They have collaborated on a number of visual art and design projects, taking it upon themselves to pursue a vision of 'total' art for Pacey's music. Since November 2018, Ben Webb has joined the band as guitarist, lending to each song a much needed boost in romanticism, noise, and potential for bled out ears.
GREATHUNTER (OTT ambient rock)
https://greathunter.bandcamp.com/
GREATHUNTER is a musical project from Andrew Grosvenor (guitar, vocals) and Leigh Newton (synth, drums, vocals, programming). The music blends choral vocals, live instrumentation including string, brass and woodwind arrangements, over programmed synths and percussion. The result is a hybrid of dream pop, electro, shoegaze and chamber pop.
The debut album, “PREY”, features seven songs originally written by Grosvenor between 2006 and 2008 while living in China, and between 2008 and 2016 after returning to Canada. “PREY” is a journey of discovery, self reflection, and embracing the unknown.
