The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and the Canadian Diabetes Association have joined together in a unique partnership to promote healthy eating in the heart of Ottawa’s Chinatown. On Thursday, March 4, 2010 at
6:00 p.m. a celebration will take place to recognize the 2010 Chinese New Year with a healthy traditional ten course
Chinese Banquet at Chu Shing Restaurant, 691 Somerset West in Ottawa.
The Healthy Eating for Life 2010 Chinese Banquet will feature a special menu of recipes inspired from the Healthy
Eating for Life initiative. Launched in 2009 this Ontario-based initiative provides culturally relevant health
information and includes a collection of 60 recipes and nutritional information. Banquet participants will receive a
recipe book from our special menu that they can take home to share with family and friends.
“Cultural and language challenges may make it difficult for individuals to access important health and chronic disease
prevention and management information. We are all excited about this event as it is an opportunity for people to gain
knowledge about ways they can live a healthy lifestyle and celebrate healthy eating in Ottawa’s Chinatown,” says
Aglaée Jacob, Dietitian from the Community Diabetes Education Program of Ottawa.
The Healthy Eating for Life 2010 Banquet will feature: keynote speaker Senator Vivienne Poy, presentations from
local dietitians who are part of the Community Diabetes Education Program of Ottawa. Attendees will also have the
opportunity to take advantage of a free health risk assessment.
Tickets are now available and the cost is $38 per person. For more information or to purchase your tickets to the
banquet, call the Canadian Diabetes Association at (613) 688-5931 or visit Oriental Charm, 653 Somerset Street West
(613) 565-8838.
