Need volunteers to help during COVID-19?

Volunteer Ottawa is recruiting and deploying volunteers to respond to needs specific to COVID-19, while also ensuring proper screening and safety protocols. We have been overwhelmed by a significant number of individuals wanting to volunteer their help, and at this time are reaching out to our community to identify specific needs for volunteer help that is needed.
Volunteers are available in three areas:
1) Virtual Volunteering - without any contact, such as telephone outreach.
2) Light Touch Volunteering - with minimal contact, such as pick up and delivery services.
3) High Touch Volunteering - with increased contact, such as passenger transportation.
Some examples of COVID-19 volunteer roles that your organization may need support with:
Healthy volunteers to shop and drop off groceries for families in need volunteers do not need to have access to their own vehicle to participate - they can walk or ride their bike.
ALL deliveries will be curb-side and non-contact to mitigate risk to infection.
volunteer will be reimbursed for cost of groceries via e-transfer
Virtual volunteers to assist staff with the following tasks:
posting on your community blog, Facebook, and Twitter accounts composing your newsletters
Virtual online tutors to offer assistance to students in K - 12 for online tutoring at no charge during COVID-19 school closures.
Volunteer fabric cutters whom work from their homes to cut large fabric into smaller rectangles. These will be picked up and delivered to sewers who will make face masks. These masks are then donated to needed community organizations / hospitals. Volunteers will work from their home and will be provided with fabric.
Volunteer virtual visitor. Visiting people in need over Zoom, or Skype, or phone calls, to virtually visit those who are in need of a friendly face, or a phone call.
During this crisis we are waiving the fees to advertise your volunteer recruitment needs on our website.
