Black History Month. What an excellent excuse to visit Africa!!

In honour of Black History Month, we will spend almost all of today's show on related themes. An extended trip to Africa. Jazz, fusions, afrobeat, even some ballet ... Lots of long sets today. Less yacks, more tracks. How we like it! Please hit us up on the CKCU Interactive Thingy and let us know what y'all think! (Hint: it is on the right of the page you are looking at right now. q;^)
Mali and NW Africa! Ali Farka Toure, and so many friends and relations! Including the much overlooked Foday Musa Suso -- a real innovator. Peace in the region … PLEASE.

Hi Shelley Ann. I predict you will be adding some afrobeat (on now) to your playlists for running. Certainly gets them feet moving! ;^)

We were driving around Ottawa today listening to the show and loved the music. At about 3:15, we got to our destination, but couldn't get out of the car until the most beautiful song ended....if there is anyway to let us know who it was who was singing at about that time, that would be wonderful. Absolutely amazing playlist - thank you!

Hi back Beverly, and Nathalie!!! Or any other lurkers too. First, and foremost THANKS FOR LISTENING, and using the CKCU Interactive Thingy feature too. It is just great to hear from you. PLEASE keep that up. It is really, really helpful to making great music and community radio happen. You can re-listen to the show through CKCU web site at: http://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/32/info.html ... hopefully time travel to work it out from there. But based on both your time guesses, it would probably be something around the following: - Afrocubism / Toumani Diabaté, "Jarabi" - Foday Musa Suso & Pharoah Sanders, "Samma" - Foday Musa Suso & Phillip Glass, "Spring Waterfall" See the playlist, as above. Time index somewhere around 120 minutes in. REGARDLESS, they are all JUST AWESOME. BTW, Another way to connect on details for this sorta thing may be through e-mail, to the entire This Island Earth collective, at thisislandearth@ckcufm.com . I can also be reached directly at peterb@ckcufm.com. Go for it! AND, AGAIN, THANKS FOR LISTENING!! Keep it coming. Peace, PeterB
