Showers A Blessing

Thank you for tuning into Vintage Love tonight. Some great music in store for you including Peter Tosh, Morgan Heritage, Bitty McLean, George Nooks, Mercy Chinwo, Marcia Griffiths and more. Anthems tonight as we celebrate Black History Month... musically. We feature the Anthems on VL because these are those songs that get the blood flowing... that make you listen.. make you think and make you ponder "the situation" we find ourselves in. These songs are songs of sadness, of history, of joy, of perseverance, strength and hope. Some music you can "just" listen too but these are songs that command your attention... command your ear so that you hear the fight and the struggles of others.. the struggles of us. I hope you enjoy the program tonight as we push the envelope of music that pushes us to be better. Better than we are.. better than we have been. Anthems tonight on VL... musically acknowledging and celebrating the struggle for equality and justice for all. "You dont haffi dread to be Rasta" Jah lives and rules and reigns. Show's Intro
O'Shea, during the intro of the show, an instrumental piece is played while the lady says, "Sit back, relax, Vintage Love starts right now on the mighty CKCU". What is the title of that instrumental piece, O'Shea?

Hey HB, how are you doing? Enjoying your weekend so far?

11:02 PM, February 17th, 2024
O'shea Adagio (host)
To me an anthem needs to have a few different components: 1. The lyrics nudge the listener to some positive thought and/or action. OR inform the listener of the conditions elsewhere that do not represent a wonderful place to live and to raise a family. 2. Songs of positivity, striving for something better 3. The beat.. although I do not think this is a requirement. I find that songs with a driving beat which speak of the struggle for a better life, freedom, justice and peace also factor in highly in anthems to me. But this is not necessarily so all the time. For example Bob Marley & The Wailers "No Woman No Cry", I think is an anthem as well but there is no driving beat, however the words, the emotion of the song.. to me make that an anthem as well.

Totally agree.. Buffalo Soldier is truly a great 'nother anthem from BM&TW's. There are so many they gave us to learn from and to gain strength from to fight our own battles. Amazing!! Thank you to God for all of these amazing artists that give us music. What would life be without a soundtrack to accompany the ups.. the downs and all in between! Music Is Life. Love it.

Hey Destiny... you are absolutely right. This is certainly not an exhaustive list.. just not enough time in 2 hours. Maybe a few days and I could play all the great anthems through the ages of Reggae music. This is just a touch for Reggae Month and Black History Month. Respect to those who take the ills of the times that we talk about and put it to song.

11:50 PM, February 17th, 2024
Jeremy
That would be nice
