Interviews with Petr Cancura from the Ottawa Jazz Festival, and Cimafunk, appearing at the Festival June 28th

The Ottawa Jazz Festival kicks off tomorrow, Friday, June 23 and continues until Friday, June 30. The Jazz Fest features a wide variety of amazing music over the next week with concerts in Confederation Park, on the Marion Dewar Plaza at City Hall and in the National Arts Centre. The Festival's artistic director, Petr Cancura joins us today to talk about the Jazz Festival and highlight some of his picks from this year's lineup. It's a diverse lineup that includes jazz greats like Herbie Hancock and John Scofield, as well as a broad range of artists including Feist, Lord Huron and Colin Stetson. For more information about the Festival, including pass and ticket information, use the link below: https://ottawajazz.gazebo.fyi/ One of the artists at the Ottawa Jazz Festival this year is Cimafunk, bringing his blend of Afro-Latin and funk sounds to the OLG Stage at Marion Dewar Plaza next Wednesday, June 28th at 10:30 p.m. Originally from Cuba, Cimafunk was on his way to becoming a doctor when he made the decision to follow his true passion - making music. We talk to Cimafunk about what drew him to music and how his music blends a lot of influences into a bold, upbeat, funky vibe. He also talks about how much he loves to collaborate and how he was very excited to work with artists like George Clinton and Lupe Fiasco on his 2021, Grammy-nominated album El Alimento. Cimafunk also tells us about the big band he will be performing with next Wednesday night in a show that's not to be missed if you like some hot funk on a summer night. For more information on Cimafunk, check out his website: https://cimafunk.com/ Get out and see some live music this week. Check out the Ottawa Jazz Festival if you can. Thanks for listening.
