Thursday April 20th, 2023 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Loon Choir, Anna Petersen of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Vilivant

We open the show today in conversation with two members of Ottawa's Loon Choir: Dan Larmour (guitar/vocals) and Celeste Côté (piano/vocals.) Dan and Celeste tells us about the creative process in a large ensemble like the Loon Choir and how we can expect some new recorded music from the group this year. You can see Loon Choir performing at Club SAW on Friday (April 21.) For more information on Loon Choir: https://www.loonchoir.com/home For ticket information for the group's concert: https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/loon-choir-luella-salmon-ella-club-saw-tickets/13069115?pl=spectrasonic Then we speak with Anna Petersen, the Second oboe and English horn player with the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO). Anna tells us about a very special program being performed by the NACO next Wednesday, April 26th called "Anna's Playlist." Anna tells us how she was selected to come up with a playlist of music that the Orchestra will perform, and how she put the pieces together into a beautiful and powerful program for the evening. Instead of playing full orchestral works like symphonies and concertos, the playlist format includes short pieces and movements from larger pieces. It's a great way to introduce audiences to a wide variety of classical music. About her playlist, Anna says, “these are my absolute favourite excerpts from the orchestral repertoire—music that fires me up and makes me feel.” This marvellous playlist is filled with powerful works that feature the full force of the orchestra. We play a few pieces from the playlist and feature a wonderful conversation with Anna. Vilivant tells us about her debut album Running On Empty, some of the themes explored in the songs and what went into producing it. She talks about her live band and about making a fun video for the song Drown.
