Punto De Encuentro
Wednesday February 19th, 2014 with Sonia

On tonight's program we paid tribute to three remarkable people: Simon Diaz, a singer, song writer and folklorist, passed away today in Venezuela. His contributions to the music scene in Venezuela made him one of the greatest exponents of the genre. He painted, through his lyrics and his songs, the traditions and customs of the simple life of peasants, their dreams and their love of the land. We also honored the anniversary of another great artist's death, Ali Primera. Also a Venezuelan singer and author, Ali's songs denounced the lack of justice and the exploitation of workers, and they were also full of hope for a better world. Marking the 3rd anniversary of his death, we also remembered our dear friend and co-host, and founder of Punto de Encuentro, Roberto Miranda. I read a poem written by Daniel, Roberto`s son. For tonight's interview we spoke with Carolina Rodriguez; Minister-Counselor & Chargee d`Affairs of the Embassy of Venezuela in Canada, she spoke with us regarding the opposition her country's government is facing, and the ensuing crisis.
