Expo Update is a weekly (running for 6 weeks) look into what's happening at the Canada Pavilion located at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan. Throughout the six episodes, Carleton journalism undergrad graduate and Capital Current intern Sean Coombs will guide you through an eye opening line up of interviews, music, and reports that showcase the cultural connections that bind communities in Japan and Canada together. Not only will events at the expo be included, but stories of Canadians creating innovation and cultural exchange within the local Osaka community will be added as well. No matter what you're interested in, Expo Update will have content that will spark your interest in the deep cultural connections Japan and Canada share.
While the line up for the upcoming shows is fluid and subject to the developments from the expo, you can expect a solid line up of Canadian artists, performers, entrepreneurs, and educators. Each episode will feature at least two interviews with people like the kinds listed, along with Canadian music and updates from the expo more broadly. Featured interviewees will include Jill Barber, Dominique Fils Aime, representatives from the RCMP ceremonial guard, Expo Organisers, and many more! Content produced by other Capital Current interns working at the Canadian pavilion may also be featured. This is the first time that Carleton School of Journalism's Capital Current has gone truly international in its reporting, and the other interns are eager to share their work.

The Osaka Expo is one of over 100 cultural expos or fairs held across the world since the 19th century by the Paris-based organisation Bureau International des Expositions. Held only once every four years or so, World Expos offer people around the world virtually and in-person the opportunity to explore the cultures of other nations and participate in cultural exchange with communities across continents. Whether your interested in exploring international diaspora or cultures from nations often closed off from the world, World Expos like the one being held in Osaka offer a world of experiences in one small place.

Expo Update is an intern produced radio show series that is editorially independent from World Expo, the Canadian Pavilion, and all other interview participants. We hope you enjoy the shows, and please share your feedback with CKCU!
