Hey ho! I saw/heard The Get Alongs at Targ's last week or so, and they are FABULOUS! A bit like watching earlyish Stones, or The Black Crowes (sort of, no close comparison intended). I'd gone to hear Out By Lucy, which I want to hear again, but The Get Alongs really turned my crank. Great lead singer, outstanding lead guitar, among the four.

There are times when I think: We're DAMNED lucky we're not the United States, or in it. Like when I hear many of the singers and players you have here today. Not that similar people doesn't exist in the US, they do; but many are repressed by money, bigness and the money system (not to forget politics!).

The gradual change in Gord Downie from an initially-sarcastically somewhat hard-edge male, through classic, Canadian history times, through later poetry, to his final version (Secret Path, the Last Concert), is nothing short of remarkable.
